Got my Jag just 10 minutes ago. Plain-bladed, silver-handled... May not be a Benchmade but it's beautiful to me. Oh yeah, got my first butterfly knife cut 5 minutes ago.

Pretty deep, right into the knuckle. And on my index finger. That's my favorite finger! Ah well, comes with the territory I guess.

Welcome to the club. Now you know why it's called the bite handle.

Doubt is an uncomfortable condition,
but certainty is a ridiculous one.

In 15 years of selling butterfly knives, I don't ever remember getting cut by the blade on one of them. Regular pocket knives are much more dangerous, because the back spring can snap the blade on you and get you real good. Esp. Case Knives. A little while ago, I got a shipment of fancy knives in from Batangas, and when I went to use one of those there was a real sharp place on the handle and it took a good sized chunk of skin off my finger. I guess it's a good idea to look at a knife, before start to flip it around. Thanks, JohnR7 www.BalisongKnife.com

Although i got my first balisong 20 years ago. The feeling came back to me when i received by BM42.

Congratulations on recieving your first bali. And might I add, job well done on getting the traditional "blood" ceremony out of the way right off. Now you can get down to some serious manipulation!.... LOL

I should be getting mine within the week...same as yours except with the tactical black powdercoat handles.

Atta boy, jump right into the fire.

The day I got my first Balisong I stabbed myself in the leg trying to manipulate it while driving.........

I've been hooked ever since.

Because......
getting 'em open
is half the fun!

Man, I can only do a couple of opening moves but it's already so fun, I know I'll never stop.

And, I'd like to thank you Clay. I memorised the first few exercises on Balisongxtreme.com and practiced them all last night. Come morning, I can execute the first two opens with very little trouble... other than my bandaged index finger of course.

BTW, I got smart after I got cut: Now I know which hand is the bite handle, and my blade is black with electiral tape.

congratulations! have fun with it!
and it only gets better with time.

I started when i stumbled upon clay's site, saw some of the stuff and decided i had to get one. so i went to the flea market the next day and got a Bear. i didnt flip it at all until i got home for fear of cutting myself. the most cuts i've ever had on my hand at one time was i believe 13.
now i'm almost done with the Advanced page, but i'm not going to move on until i've perfected it with both hands.

now i have a choice to make.... get a katana for christmas or a 42...my birthday is a week away from christmas though, so i might use that to my advantage.

That's a good question Dragon brought up, what are some bad habits to watch out for. I have a bad habit of manipulating barefoot, and over my mom's new leather couch. I'd like to hear some bad habits from others, please share.

Dropping good blades onto concrete surfaces

Bad, bad habit! Also, Drugs or drinking anytime.

I have some bad habits of manipulating barefoot as well, over concrete, wood floors, linolium, too close to my parents, flippin around the knife and smacking a wall, door, table with the bite handle flailing around.

The most cuts I had on my hands was about 50-60, I got those when I was doing aerials (first starting out) and I would catch the blade right in the palm of my hand and it would go in about 1/8-1/4 of an inch, I have some wonderful scars

The greatest thing happened to me last night, I was showing my dad 2 new techniques that I made up and as it fell I kept my hand right next to it, when it hit the ground the blade closed over my thumb, plus I had just sharpened it a couple days ago.

Ok, I got my first one a little sooner than I expected.

The weed-smoking dude in my Boy Scout troop actually showed up with it...but I didn't get his.

To make a long story short, we asked some drunk druggie smoking a cigarette to buy one.

Things got kinda hairy, but I'll skip that.

Well, I'm rather disappointed. It's a cheap, silver, extra-slim one. It had a "Made in China" sticker on it. All the pins are tight or something. Well, a knife is a knife.

I can't wait for my Jag to come in.

That's what I thought.

When I first thought about joining BSA, one classmate invited me to one of his meetings. It was organized and everything.

Then, another classmate told me not to join that "gay" troop...he said they did cooler stuff in his troop.

Uh, yeah. Like bringing realistic replica BB guns to camps and shooting each other.

That's where I got my Zippo too.

Whew, lucky the blade isn't sharp.

I taped it for about fifteen minutes last night, then took it off. Not too long after, I poked a hole in my pants showing my dad. No cut though. I almost stabbed myself in the chest too, when it was taped. I think I was getting careless, so I took the tape off.

The blade isn't very sharp, but the point is. I just let the bite handle close over my fingers.
