Got my first bench grinder!

I've been wanting to get one for a while and the other day a golden opportunity popped up. A buddy of mine owed me $35 and has this old Craftsman 1/3 hp 6" grinder that takes 6 3/4" x 1/2" wheels.

I'm thinking about grabbing some safety glasses and my welding gloves and going to town on sharpening some thin(ish) pieces of steel.

What is this for?

It looks like a wheel dresser.

As the stone wheel rotates, you push this tool into the face of the wheel. It essentially fixes little imperfections in the surface of the wheel that accumulate during use.

You can always turn this into a buffer.

I got a 36gritt stone on mine.
It saves belts when roughing out

the wheels do need dressing
