Well my new Wetterlings Carpenter axe arrived today and I'm pretty happy with it but it has some minor things I'm not super happy with. First is a mistake on my end which was to not measure just how long 19-5/8" was. I thought it would have been a bit longer but this isn't that much longer than a hatchet. It does allow for a decent two hand grip though so I'm not too worried about this issue. Next is the feel of the handle. Its got a rough finish which to me gives me the nails ion a chalkboard feeling so I'm gonna stain it to a darker color and smooth it out. But as a plus it came nice and super sharp and I will use it asap. All in all I do really like it and these tiny flaws in no way make me like it any less. This is a great product and I can't wait to break it in. From what I hear these will last a lifetime with proper care and can even be handed down to my kid(provided my daughter wants an axe:rolleyes:). And for the price its a great deal IMO cuz I can't see a Gransfors being much better yet the price can be up to nearly double the wetterlings.

Always wanted one of those. Good looking axe nicely designed with the hardened neck.
What's your intended use, little bit of everything?
Like to hear how you like it after awhile.

Nice axe. they are more one handed for a carpenter to chop something out of the way or make a board or something, but not really chop out a beam. some old timers 'round hear called them a stump axe so you could chop out a new handle on the chopping block.

absolutely love mine. probably my favorite axe, overall. the tempered poll comes in handy, too.

Nice. I was really torn between this one and the Large Hunters Axe. Keep us updated on you like it after breaking it in some.

I've been considering a Carpenters axe for awhile. I was wondering if the poll was hardened. The fellow that has them in stock said he didn't know if the poll was hardened. Can you point me to a source that states that the poll is hardened? Or is it your personal experience?
Either way, I sure would appreciate your help.
Regards, Double Ott

I like the look of it a lot, though I, too, would like to see a longer handle on it. :)
