Earlier this week, I got my first Buck knife, the Vanguard with the rubber handle. I did a simple video review on my first impression of the knife. I wasn't going to post it here, as it's not an in-depth review, but I thought someone might enjoy it. I compare the Vanguard to some rubber-gripped knives in my stable. I've come to the conclusion the Vanguard is about the perfect hunting design. I like the feel and balance and it's priced well below knives it can easily compete against. I plan to use it for years, the Lord willing. Here's my video. The first minute or so has the camera at a poor angle. I correct this.

Congrats on your first Buck. I like the vanguard. I have had 3 and let each one go. Two were users and one was a cut out collector with ironwood. But I feel I need another one.

Congrats on the Vanguard and welcome to the Buck family. I don't have one yet in my Buck collection, but will get one eventually. I'll try to check your Youtube video later today. Thanks for taking the time to post it here. :)

Thanks guys. I plan to give it a workout. This morning, I got out the steel. I did 30 strokes with a ceramic rod and 30 with the steel. It about doubled the initial sharpness. It shaves hair but can be made even sharper. I can see it will be very easy to keep sharp.

You made a fine choice. People dog the 420 steel but Buck does it right. I've been in hunting camps where several animals are taken and had to pass my vangsurd around from hunter to hunter because none of their knives could finish a big proccessing job without being resharpened at least once. I've used my vangaurd from stsrt to finish on 4 mule deer in one day without touching up the edge!

That should be a good enough recommendation for anyone! I do like Buck's 420HC a lot, along with their 440C, 125M, BG-42, CPM154, ATS-34...OK, I like them all. ;)

Whatched your video. Nicely done. My only critisism would be the this will do anything the Buck will do qoutes. In most light duty cutting they will but only your falkniven will take a good batoning thru a pelvis or sturnum the way the buck will. Using that Buck as your primary hunting knife will give you extreme piece of mind after you have field tested it yourself. Can't say enough good things and your on the money about the warranty. Bust it anyway even run it over with a road grader and they will rrplace it. I know because i've done it. Even found a 119 in the ditch broke in half with no handle, they sent me a new one! Good hunting my friend!
