I got my first Case knife today. Seemed weird, of all the knives I had that I did not posess a single Case knife or even a Swiss Army Knife, so I went down to the local knife shop and traded away my MTechs to get a Texas Toothpick. So far it seems like a good knife, I will get to test it out at work tomorrow. Just wanted to share my happiness with you all. While I am on it is there anybody else out there that dosent have a SAK or a Case and if you do what was your first?

My first Case was a Copperlock in stag. Lost it after a few months, fell out of pocket in a friends car. Second Case is another Copperlock in green apaloosa bone. Still have it and don't use it that much. I love SAK! Have about 15 of them. My favorite is my Climber in black and my Explorer in red. I have a few Champs but too big to carry in pocket IMHO. The Explorer is my hands down fav. and the climber is a second. Just the best two I think. I always have one or the other in the pocket. Never had a bit of rust even come close to latching on either of them. I just with they made some with black blades, I think that would be cool.

I got a silver script Cheetah with cranberry bone handle scales when I was on leave last fall. I saw it at Gander Mountain and just had to have it, I've always had a thing for swing guards and this is a really nice one. I might get one of the Copperlock or Mako auto conversions someday too. I don't see myself really collecting these seriously because they just aren't my style, but there are certain models I do like, and they're very well made.

My first was a presentation Bowie from the 70s that was my Grandpa's. I got it when he passed away. The first I got for myself was a yellow handled trapper in CV steel. But I gave that to a friend when I got my Camillus trapper in 1095 with abalone celluloid. The one I just picked up is a large Sodbuster in CV with black handles. I found it at a local cutlery shop. The guy said it had been laying around for a few years. I keep looking at the Amber Bone series (in CV, of course). I've heard people complain about Case but the trapper I gave away had good fit and finish and great walk and talk. The Sodbuster doesn't have the same level of F&F but still has great walk and talk. I like 'em. If only they had more offerings in CV.

I also wish they had more carbon steels..sigh. My latest Case is a Shadow Autumn bone, bolsterless half whittler. I like it quite a bit...if only I could get a good edge on it.

I like the stainless one's, but it would be cool to have some carbon blades. Didnt know Case did that though. Always assumed they stuck to just stainless blades.

They call their carbon steel Chrome Vanadium, the CV SilverFoxKnows was referring too. I have no experience with it myself, but I would guess that it's plain old 1095 like Shrade uses for the Old Timer series. I wish they would use it more too, their stainless is pretty soft based on my experience with my Cheetah. It is pretty though, and fine for light duty work.

I got my first and, so far, only Case a few years back, when my Pa'sPa died. It's an old folding pocket knife; I'm not sure which model nor exactly how old. It's probably a lot older than I am. This was just some beater knife from his workshop, and it was rusted, with a lot of gunk in the folding mechanism, and with a cracked handle. The blade was worn way back, from so many years of resharpening. I kept it to remember him by, and soon started using it as my own beater knife--the knife I'd reach for when I was going to do unreasonable uses, and didn't want to use one of my nice knives.

Over the last few years, I've been using it as a striker for a ferrocerium rod. I've been using it for light prying and digging, and as a fire poker. When it gets covered in tree sap, I've often cleaned it by scorching the sap off with a blow torch. I resharpen it with rocks, or with with a belt sander.

I've been pretty rough on it, and it has withstood my unkind treatment much better than I expected. Better than my Spydercos, SAKs, Cold Steels, and CRKTs have handled such use by a longshot. It has earned my respect. I now not only reach for it because I don't want to use my nicer knives, but also because I've come to like it.

Dang Evolute, sounds like you beat the heck outta your knife. I am always so careful with my blades, even my beaters.
