I received my first classic Queen congress today.

It's a 4 blade D2 with genuine red stag. Sheepsfoot stamped titusville PA. I've been told they made only 25 of this model.

I got it from Ron at cuttersandcollectors.com. Really good to deal with & great sevice. I received it a week to the day from ordering, pretty good as I am in Oz. He even threw in leather slip case.

My first impression

Fit & finsh solid. No play in the blades when open, grinds are consistent. I had read that some queen's factory edge weren't that sharp. All blades are extremely sharp, nice suprise. The ony fault I can see is that 1 sheepsfoot is etched with Queen cutlery co guine redstag as red stag is in small scroll work the wording is a touch blury.

Hope you find this of interest.

Congratulations.

That is a lot of blade edge in a comparatively small package no matter what other folder you compare it to.

I hope you will enjoy the knife. I think you will really enjoy those D2 blades.

Thanks Guys!

I'll get a lot of use out of it.

It's a lot of edge alright, I wanted a sheepsfoot as a main blade as I have several wharhcliffe's & find a straght edge very practical. D2 was selling point for me, I have a couple Gene ngram customs in D2 great steel.

Eventually I want to get a custom. I like the look of Ty Montell knives.

I'll be having a look at the Melbourne knife show in May, Jason Cutter has started making slipjoints he makes graet knives & should be there.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all members of the traditional forum, for all the informative posts. It enabled me to get the right knife for me. THANKS

mitch13,

Funny you should mention Ty, as he is relatively unknown as of yet. He makes beautiful knives, and he is a very pleasant person as well.
I have one similar to the attachment (picture from Bob Glassman's website). Mine is a bit larger, with a Western (longer, curved) spey blade. It is "The Nuts" as we say..... :D

El Lobo,

Nice score!
That is a nice knife. I really like his stag double bladed trapper with single bolsters on Bob's site. I thought he might be a newer maker, as I haven't been able to find much about him. Some of the newer makers make great knives at reasonable price. have several from BF members, Jason Cutter, Gene Ingram,Ricky Finch Michael Burch & Craaig Camerer. I haven't been dsappointed in any of them.

What Rc hardness does he do his blades to?

Do you know if Ty has a website or how I can contact him. I've done google searches & didn't find much.

Cheers
Mitch

Ty lives in Silver City, New Mexico.....about halfway between Phoenix, Arizona and El Paso, Texas.
He isn't much of a computer kind of guy, I don't believe.....Glassman is the first dealer to carry any of his knives. He mostly sells at shows, and word of mouth.
Don't know about the Rockwell....mine is triple quenched 440C....maybe 58 or so, but didn't ask.
His phone number is (505)388-4463.

Bill

P.S.
I also have a Queen Congress from RGR at Cutters and Collectors....nice knife.
P.P.S.
I just threw the geography in 'cause I see you are from down under... :D

Bill Thanks for the info!

I'll wait till after the knife show in May, if I can't find what I'll probably get one of Ty's as I am after a 2 bladed custom. However knowing me I'll still probably get 1 regardless, oh well gives me something to aim for later in the year.

Mate thanks for the location tip. Yes being in Oz I don't know all the US state abbreviations. That's one bonus with buying knives fom US makers & being a member of BF's getting to know you guys aren't that different. When Ron shipped congress he had packed TV guide from local paper, good to see you get the same time worn reruns as us. :D

Cheers

Mitch

mitch13,
Saw Ty today at the Paul Basch knife show here in Scottsdale, Arizona. Mentioned that a gent from Australia liked his style. If you decide to pull the trigger, tell him what you would like, as he is a most accommodating guy. If not, no harm, no foul. He is making some awesome stuff for $275-$325.....hard to beat.
