When I saw the sale on amazon I jumped at the chance, and now I'm the happy owner of the standard kukri machete.
Initial impressions are limited since I haven't had any chopping opportunity yet. Much to my surprise the edge was actually quite decent, and didn't show any signs of being uneven, or otherwise nonexistent. Although a little time spent with a bastard file and an india stone really brought out its potential, and now it's really sharp.
The handle itself feels a little on the slim side compared to everything else I've handled so far. Needed a little beefing up with some layers of electrical tape and a ranger band covering.
The sheath, I'll admit that I was caught off guard by this. It's a lot different from everything else I've had experience with. But for the purpose of carrying the blade safely, it does its job alright.
The only thing I don't get is why the finish has a wood grain pattern to it. What's up with that?
