Got my first EDC knife!

I suppose it's sad. I've been around for a number of years, but I've never had a real EDC knife (nope, never!). A little while ago I decided to change that and order my first.

I listened to some forum friends' advice and did some research to figure out what would suit me well. I suppose there were many things that WOULD have suited me fine, but very few seemed to appeal to me. Due to financial limitations, I decided to stick with production pieces. I had some trouble choosing among a few models, but eventually I decided and made an order. This last weekend I received my knife in the mail and I'm quite pleased with it :)

I'm now a happy owner of a Microtech LCC, one of the older models with CF scales and Ti bolsters and 154CM blade.

Strange, I used to push away from anything that appeared remotely tactical, and the LCC didn't appeal to me. I guess its appearance grew on me quite a bit before I bought one.

Sorry for wasting space with this, just felt like sharing my satisfaction. :D

Congratulations on the Microtech, take care of it and I'm sure it will do the same. I'm with you in that I only have one knife as well. I recomend you get a EdgePro (or a Lansky), and a whole mess of lube/treatment to go along with her :D

Congrats--I think you made a really nice choice for your first EDC. My LCC is my primary EDC ever since I got it earlier this year. Hold on to your wallet...'tis only the beginning... :p

I dunno if Bob qualifies here. The man's been around longer than most, and just now got himself a folder. He's got self control that borders on god-like, and I don't think he owns a wallet. ;)

I hear ya about the LCC, Bob. When that thing first came out, I couldn't figure out what all the ooohing and ahhhhhing was all about. Still can't. Dang thing doesn't appeal to me one iota. But the reviews are decent enough, so have at 'er. I'm glad you jumped in there and started packin'..... yer about three years late getting started, but what the hell.

One comment that seems to stand out on the LCC is the size and heft. Is it that bulky/heavy for EDC?

Congratulations Bob,
You picked a great knife to start as EDC, or to have as your only EDC. I like Microtech a lot. I only own a Socom Elite and a Kestrel. Both border on custom with their tight tolerances and smooth action. I think you will enjoy the beasty!:D

Robert, I envy you on two levels. One is owning only one EDC and the other being it's a LCC. I can't remember a time when I only had one knife. It had to be when I was single digit in age. Oh, the curse of chasing the next purchase/acquition. Now it is a problem in deciding which one goes in the pocket or pockets. Decisions, decisions, decisions.............

heh heh...thanks for the kind words.

Vel: yeah it's a pretty hefty folder. I don't really think it's all that bulky though, and it fits in my pocket just fine. I felt like every knife I was looking at had tradeoffs to deal with, and the biggest tradeoff for the LCC was its weight. After handling it though, I got used to the size and weight quickly and it became a relative non-issue when considering the upsides of the knife. In terms of fit/finish and solidity, I was certainly impressed.

The one thing I hadn't expected was how nice the thumb cutout was for 1-handed closing and for access to the thumbstud for easy operation.

The weight certainly is there, but I don't find it cumbersome at all. Maybe in the future I will be looking for something a little different, but for now I am satisfied with the LCC :)

Edit: Woo, post #600!

No doubt--he's been here a couple of years longer than I have and my knife buying increased like 700% (sounds like an exaggeration but it's probably higher than that) after I got here.

I actually wondered the same thing when I first saw the knife, but when I finally handled it I understood what all the hubbub was about. It's my largest/heaviest EDC, but I don't notice it any more than I do my other knives. And Robert is right about the cutout making opening and closing the knife extremely easy.
