well, I have a co-worder who buys all sorts of stuff at auctions, and I get first pick of his knives, I finally jumped on one that he had

It is made in solingen, I dont know the maker though. I believe it is carl schleiper but I dont know for sure. I hit it with some oil and sharpened it, it took a real nice edge. I paid 20 for it and told him to hit me up whenever he gets more knives. the stamp on the blade is an eye with lines radiating out from it.

so here it is, what do yall think?

ps: manufacture date is still a mystery to me so if anyone had a link to date codes for the company I would be grateful

Nice knife. Made by German Eye brand.
It is very hard to date these knives, but by little information available to me it looks to date from late 70's to about '81.

Ya

Everything is in good shape from what I've been able to tell

The blades have a nice patina on them

The scales have me stumped though, they are almost transparent yellow rather than solid, can anyone tell me why?

I forgot, what pattern would this knife be considered?

I dont know much about traditionals, and had someone ask me today

thanks in advance

Yes it is a Carl Schlieper and at 4" is called a Premium Stockman. I'd guess it to be older than 1970 and $20 is a very good price. Schlieper knives are very collectible and get a lot of bidding on ebay. Their non stainless steel edge holds very well so they make one of the best user knives of all.

The somewhat transparent scales might be 'acrylic', as opposed to celluloid, which often shrinks or otherwise deteriorates. I think acrylic was real common on knives of that age, assuming 70's or later, as indicated earlier.

From a Wiki article on 'Acrylic resin' ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acrylic_resin ):
" An other acrylic resin is Polymethyl methacrylate which is used to make hard plastics with various light transmitting properties."
