As the title says I now have my first Spyderco. My son bought me a Spyderco Manix 2 and had it delivered to me yesterday. He lives in Denver and bought it at Golden and had some personal engraving put on the blade. It seems to be a really well made knife and I am sure I will enjoy it very much. While I am familiar with this brand I am not familiar with this type of lockup. For locking folders I have Bucks, Tops/Buck and Kershaws. I also have Case knives so I am accustomed to working with knifes that do not lock. It is going to take a little handling to feel comfortable that the blade is securely locked in place.

The ball bearing lock on the manix 2 is VERY strong. You shouldn't have any problems out of it with normal use.

It's actually a caged ball bearing. The original ball bearing lock was on the Poliwog and Phoenix The polymer cage does make it very secure without a doubt.

I will have to say, I just got a manix less than an hour ago, and I know what you mean about the locking mechanism. My brain tells me that it'll be fine, but just looking at it and playing around with it, it takes a bit of getting used to. Its a great knife though, and its already replaced the native as my favorite spyderco!

I also got my first Spyderco, it hasn't arrived yet though. Also a Manix2 but the all black version.
This is also my first post since joining bladeforums...so hi everyone!

Great knife, and welcome.

Thanks all for the replies and welcomes.
The lockup sure seems secure and I am beginning to feel comfortable with it. It's a well made knife.

Once you get a manix, you will have to pick up a para 2 or a military for a slicer blade if ur looking to keep it american! or a delica/endura flat ground....all 4 blade slice and dice through stuff like butta!
