My first spydie came in the mail today from poor_fish (it's a tenacious)
I opened up the box and pulled out the glorius tenacious.
I looked at the screws, but they're hex screws, and they aren't T6's like they are supposed to be! Is there any way I can get the correct screws shipped to me from spyderco I really don't want to have to send my first spydie back..

I think you received the correct screws. Mine are not torx either.

Does the online or paper catalog say the clip screws are suppose to be T-6? The Tenacious and Persistence seem to use whatever is available when a batch is being made, Torx or hex.

Apparently the hearsay I got was wrong.
They do have torx.

So not be continue this thread on the wrong foot.
Any good places for me to get some paracord?! :P

I have seen this come up a few times and I thought I remember reading that all of them were hex screws, some just look like they might be a Torx.

The ones that look like a Torx do not fit on a Torx driver and a hex bit is what fits them despite their looks.

If the screws are made of metal, have threads, and have a head that accepts some sort of driver then I think you are in good shape. Enjoy your new knife.

If you're looking for bright colors, this place has a great selection.

Not only are they hex screws, but they are metric. Both my Tenacious and Persistence have 2mm hex pivot screws and the clip screws are 1.5mm

The action on mine is a bit stiff been trying to loosen it up, but I don't want to loosen the pivot to much.
It doesn't take as fine an edge as my Buck Vantage Pro in S30v which is butter smooth also :(.

I use Norton Sharpening Stone Oil, as my lubricant.
It's just purified Mineral oil.

Not to be rude, but who really gives a crap what kind of head is on the screws, as long as they hold the knife together?

well said mustardman. and why would u mess with the pivot? Its a brand new knife. Ofcourse its going to be stiff. Give it a week or so.

Been opening it also, almost to the point where my thumb bleeds.
I just liked the look of T6 over hex. I don't really care that much.

First of all, congrats on your Tenacious!
For the money, it's a real score.

But the screws, those are quite ''interesting''.. :p
I tried to take mine apart, thought they were Torx, a closer look proved different, they were hex.
So, on the hunt for the matching hex-key I had to visit several toolshops before someone finally had the right one.
Then, I had them all loose, except for one, it didn't give the key fraction whatsoever.
So, after looking at it kinda frustrated, I was forced to put it back together.
Still is in my pocket every day ;)

Good luck! :D

Makes sense though, doesn't it? The only country that does not use the Metric system is, guess who?

Knife is made in a Metric using country.

Choco: Good call Mr. WrongScrew guy, a screw is a screw!

Hey, if it has screws, people will want to adjust them. I know I do. :)

It wasn't a Spyderco so this is a little off-topic, but I recently purchased a really nice knife, made about 15 years ago, before the Age Of Torx. So as I try to adjust to pivot to my liking with a Torx driver I notice it's actually an Allen screw. No biggie, I put the knife in my pocket and go to the hardware store to find the proper tool.

Only there do I realise that since it is an American knife, the screws most definitely are not metric.

Anybody want to guess how big a selection of Allen wrenches in Imperial measurements a Finnish hardware store has? E-bay to the rescue, luckily. :D

I didn't need to find a matching hex driver.
A while ago I bought a set of precision screw drivers from Harbor Freight (they're aren't that good, but they work and don't twist) it cost me about $10 got 32 bits, screwdriver, tweezers, and the case makes a great place to put the screws.
