I got my first Victorinox tinker yesterday, I actually got a deal at sears it had a victorinox flashlight and the tinker for 20 dollars. I like the knife and the flashlight. What was your first SAK?

Mine was an Explorer my grandmother gave me when I was 8 or 9 I think. After she died, I retired it and started looking at a replacement SAK, but I ended up here... and it was all downhill after that. Now I have the nice start of a collection and a wish list that is way too expensive.

I don't remember what it was called but it was 84mm series and had a blade, some orange peeler thing and my name engraved. my uncle got it for me when he was in switzerland at the factory. 'course i was about 7 so who the hell knows where it is now but since then my addiction to sak's has been uncontrollable :D

Great choice in first SAK!

My first Swiss Army was a Tinker; that was back in 1991 when I was in college. I misplaced it though :(

I now have several:

One Hand Trekker
CyberTool 34
SwissChamp
Classic Alox
Money Clip
Climber
CyberTool Lite
Compact
Farmer
Soldier
WorkChamp
FieldMaster Plus

I'm waiting for see if Victorinox will be release a Plus version of the Deluxe Tinker; I'd quickly snag one up.

My 1st SAK was a Wenger BSA model (I don't know which one) from the mid-80s. In addition to the implements it had the Pack-Lock feature. It has been lost to the sands of time. I wish I could find another example of that knife.

My first SAK was a Climber.

There was a long time before I got my next Vic - a SwissTool RS. Now I have a couple Classics (actually I went through a bunch because I lost them :o ), Hiker, Recruit, Cadet Alox, Tinker and a Wenger Patriot. Not much in comparison to many here but There has been a recent revival in my interest in acquiring a few more models like the Farmer Alox, Electrician Plus Alox, Pioneer Alox and a Wenger Backpacker to name a few.

You got your first SAK before I was born :D

Hi Zach -

My first was an SD model, but I carry a waiter model that I have had for many years.

It was a gift from a friend.

My company has a facility in Geneva, and when my friend would travel over there he would pick me up a knife at the Victorinox factory.

I like the waiter because it has a corkscrew and a bottle opener, along with the tweezers and toothpick etc.

It is a very handy little knife, and I have used each tool on it many times.

best regards -

Congrats on your purchase ... I haven't handled their flashlights, how does it compare to other LED's?

The AA is an Inova, and it is excellent. I heard they're not going to be doing them anymore :( so grab one while you can. Felinevet has a really nice light/Farmer combo for a great price.

My first was a classic. It also has vanished over the years. From reading this thread, it looks like most "First SAKs" have.

My first SAK and also my first knife was a Victorinox Tinker. I'm carrying it right now. :D

Rambler for the keychain. Have been impressed with the consistent quality and ''handiness'' of Vic SAKs ever since.

My first proper SAK was a Waiter and I still have it. Mind you I only bought it three years ago so I'd have to be pretty careless to have lost it already. :)

I couldn't tell you, I have no experience with flashlights. Its nice though, bright, runs on 2 AAA batteries. thats about all I can tell you a bout it.

I got my first Victorinox from my grandpa when I was about 11 years old... after het took me for a walk in the woods I had lost a (cheap) pocketknife. Het took me to a hardware store the next day and bought me a Victorinox with a large and a small blade, red metal scales. Don't know the model name. I still have that knife!

Enjoy your Victorinox!

It was a Wenger, @ 1966, but I have no idea of what the model name or catalogue number may have been. It was my first SAK after having carried a Kamp King 15 years. In addition to the usual SAK layout it had scissors and maybe something else, I really don't remember. In those days I was not much interested in pocket knives as a subject, let alone a hobby. All I knew was "Wenger good, Victorinox better." and that held for my next, a Victorinox something or other that had a few implements more than the Wenger. When in 1993 that was stolen, I replaced it with a Swisschamp, the first SAK I knew by name. Since then I have accumulated several more, have learned much about SAKs and to appreciate them, but the Swisschamp remains my favorite.
