Worked out a trade at my local surplus store. Traded some Opinels for a nice bulldog clasp! This surplus store has mostly tactical knives, but the owner knows I am a traditionalist. Really happy he had this in a drawer. 1980 with great snap, just a little wobbly on the open, but once open there is no wobble.

I put the Dr. in there to show size of this beast! I was not aware of how big they are. I had to get clever to obtain a new knife, and today was a great score! The surplus guy can sell the Opinels and make money back. The price tag on the box of this clasp was $65! Hopefully it is a win win and he sells through the Opinels. This deal made my day!

Nice score! I had the opportunity to trade for a similar knife but the deal fell through.:grumpy: Don't you love it when a plan comes together?;)

Not to be nosy but how many opys did you have to trade him a bucketful? Pretty good trade.. Nice knife..

Not nosy at all. I bought the opy set in the wooden box with the plastic red felt mold to hold the knives in. The guy at Larry Shave Shop in Santa Monica offered me the whole thing for $75 no tax (the set was missing 3) I think there were 8 or 9 with the set remaining for the trade. I realized I would not be using these much, and I did not have much money to buy a knife at the moment. The Army Surplus store in Simi is a regular stop for me. I was at best hoping to trade for a small Spyderco or something more tactical, since he sells almost no traditional. I forgot he had his old stuff in a drawer. The Case clasp had a price tag of $65 on it! I am not a great negotiator, I laid it on the table, and said I paid $75 for this, what are you willing to trade? He brought out some 80's vintage Gerber lock backs, which were not my style, but then......As I gently set down a Gerber, my eyes locked on the clasp, and I thought, NO WAY would he trade that straight across! I told him I am a Case man, what kind of deal are you make on this one? I was sure he would ask for some cash with it, but he said "straight across." I said I'll take it!!!
This huge blade does wobble about an 1/16th" in the down position, and I would like to get it tighter, but I am afraid of screwing it up myself. The sheath is gone, but I like to collect boxes, so cool there too! It was funny because my wife said, "Now that is like the pocket knives men had when I was growing up in Washington." I thought she would say it looked dangerous LOL.
