I just received my two GEC knives, a Pioneer and a Scout (a big trapper and a smaller one). And I'm thrilled! After reading the thread on GEC knives I was a bit worried, I either got two exceptionally good ones or their QC has improved drastically.

They seem like excellent knives, I'll give them a good workout this weekend (it's a three day weekend in Argentina and I'm going on a horse trip), but so far I'm really happy with them.

me too. i recently received my Northfield #73 (small trapper) in burnt stag, serial #088. it's a very nice knife, sized just right, it fits the hand perfectly, nicely balanced, good stag, walk and talk crisp; and with 1/2 stops, very nice. the edge grind is the opposite, i.e. very poorly done; a tiny steep grind that wanders. it's as if the person did not know what it was they were trying to do. however, i can remedy the lack of an edge grind, so i feel lucky, because everything else makes this an attractive knife. roland

Friday started well!

Got my Great Eastern No.73 Sheffield Tobacco from the Post Office today (also A Queen Teardrop and a Canal St fixed blade, fab day:D )

After a vexing week this has been a real tonic and the GE is simply superb! I've been alarmed by some other peoples' experiences but this knife has first rate finish, blade spring and the LOOK & FEEL of those bone scales is therapy itself.
GE Canal St and Queen have such nice boxes with their products too (Case could learn here..)and that old school waxed paper = delerium!

I certainly want more GE especially in this natural bone (meant to be from exhumed cattle bone from some farm....) and I hope their other knives are as good as this because it's staggeringly good:thumbup:

So, Will, do you like it? LOL!

Roland, I know what you mean about the edge grinds. My #73 came with a superb convex grind, and a hair popping edge. However my #23 was blunt as a butter knife, luckily 1095 isn't that hard to work with.

This got me wondering, what's the matter with slipjoint companies and the edges on their knives? I've never had problems with the factory edge on my Benchmades or Spydercos, but I did with Queen as well and one of my GEC.
