Some 16 months after I had ordered it and paid for it, I received my Gibbs CUDA MAXX 7" knife. That this is one monster of a knife, let me tell you! The blade is so huge that it has a mind of its own. It will not stay closed if I hold the knnife blade down and make any kind of a movement with it. I have treid to tighten the pivot screw, but it seems to turn in the nut and not to tighten anything. Is this normal? If so, God help the tip-up folks.

No problems w/mine. Blade doesn't flop open or anything unintended. The pivot screw does not "turn in the nut" on mine either. It torques all the way down to a positve set.
After carrying it for awhile it doesn't even seem all that large. Everything else is just small.
I've since taken the thing apart and "adjusted" the lock bar slightly to suit my tastes a bit more but there were never any real issues to start with.

Its sounds like yours might have a problem with the detent. I have no issues with mine.

I contacted Camillus and they said that I should send it back to them as it sounded as if there was a problem. They said that they would pay the shipping. All of this is eminently fair and reasonable, that I understand; but I paid for this knife on July 10, 2003 when I ordered it. When I received it after sixteen months of waiting, it is defective. You would think that a company making a very limited run of anxiously expected knives that are selling for a goodly price would have had better quality control over their output than this. I am very disappointed and sad about this.

Hi FullerH

How you are feeling is perfectly understandable. It's the build-up after the initial purchase, then the waiting (and waiting and waiting and . . .) and then finally it arrives and it's broke.

I hope Camillus sets things right for you and quickly. Hang in there.

Best regards,

No detent is a major problem! I can't believe that got through. WOW! I agree with your view. It's things like this tha can really impact a companies reputation. They will take care of you. No doubt about it. However, they shouldn't of had to.

They look great in pics but I'd really like to handle one to get a feel for their oveall size.

They feel reasonable in your front pocket as long as the blade stays closed (for whic, please see above). When open, they are a definite handful, but the length of the hilt gives several options for gripping the knife, so what little that I tried it before I sent it back to Camillus lat Friday showed that it would work well.

I did send it back last Friday, 11/12/04, and hope to have it repaired and back soonest.

Wendy at Camillus said that a new Gibbs CUDA MAXX was shipped out to me on Monday. That's quick turn-around.

The replacement for my defective Gibbs CUDA MAXX 7 arrived over Thanksgiving Weekend and it is a wonderful knife. I can only say that it lives up to my expectations is every way. Camillus Customer Service is also a charm with which to deal. They not only paid for my return postage but for the insurance as well! They also were quite prompt in replacing my knife. Wendy, up there, is efficient, charming, and patient, the perfect assets in a job such as her's.
