I have two #3 Grohmann Forces/Boat knives that had the convex/sabre grind , and both had rosewood handles. I sent them to the factory a couple of weeks ago to get them flat ground, and to have my unused one receive micarta handle scales. Due to cost, I left my older, more worn rosewood model with the original handle. I like them a lot better now, and I'll be taking them to the bush on my familys' camping/canoeing trip to Wolf lake, Alberta.
I'll try to get some pics for you guys. I like the original #1 model too, but since I had two of these, I reckoned that was enough, considering all the other stuff I own.

Great to see those, I don't think they get enough attention.

So, that one with the wood handle had been pretty well used prior to sending it in?

Yeah, one of the reasons I wanted it re-ground. I sharpened it a lot, so much that it's visably smaller than the newer, micarta one. Marion,It's amazing we have only one commercial knife factory in Canada. ( please correct me if I'm wrong ! ) At least it's a good one with a great track record.

Nice! I always enjoy seeing some well-used Grohmanns - and that one on the left definitely looks well-used! How was the cost for the flat grinding? I have a carbon steel no. 2 that I have been thinking of sending in.

All the best,

- Mike

I paid $ 16 CDN for the flat grinding ( per knife.) They mis-quoted me for the micarta. It was $46 CDN to do each one, when they quoted that price for two. It was an honest mistake, but I decided only to get the one changed to micarta, and kept the old one rosewood, which I'm happy with.

They did a nice job! The one on the left looks great, nice to see one so used and still going.
Grohmanns are great and I agree they are quite under rated.

I want to make a nice kydex rig for my model #1 that I can attach to a baldric rig.
