I recently ordered one of the Peter Herbst folders from the Spyderco Outlet. It was waiting for me when I got home last night. I have to say this is one nice knife for $49.99. The fit and finsih is great and the action is smooth. The plain edge blade is a good shape with plenty of belley. It was very sharp out of the box. The best part is the styling though. It is a very pretty knife, both modern and traditional at the same time. My wife even liked it. While I have been happy with my other Spyderco knives(Jester, Rescue Jr., SS Dragonfly and Salsa) this knife is IMHO on a whole another level. If the outlet has any left I would recomend getting one. I think this knife needs more attention than it seems to have gotten.

Yup, got mine too, since yesterday. It's a nice, "conventional" folder that however benefitted from a careful "de-sharpening" of some of the liner-edges. Now that's been done, it's OK. Fit and finish are OK as well, though not spectacular. I just wish Spyderco would use Torx-screws: The conventional screw-heads are too easy to damage.

I feel that the original $179,95 would have been a bit steep, but then I've found it for a lot less elsewhere - nowhere near $49,95 though! It isn't of the promised ATS-55 steel but I like VG-10 in general, so I'll like the VG-10 blade on my Herbst as well.

For this price, it's great, despite me having had to pay twice as much due to shipping and taxes... Still a fairly good price, especially for Dutch standards. Spydies in hardware- and outdoor- stores here are up to three times US-retail here...

When did you order the 2nds?
Should've let me know. I just sold my Herbst because I couldn't bear carrying it. It's a nice piece and all, but I just know the almite will rub off.

The 2nds came out a while ago... can dig up the post about it in here. they found a bunch in storage and got the ones that were still sellable out to us as 2nds. Some cosmetic, some lockup...

mine sits with my other knives in the knife drawer. The titanium makes a nice dress knife.

I ordered on of the PE Herbst folders a few weeks ago from the Spyderco website. I'm out of the country right now and it's waiting in my office for my return.

Based on the previous posts I'm wondering............is it ATS-55 as advertised on the website or is it VG-10.

What do you guys think?
