Got my knives back from bodycote & I am a very happy guy !!

My co-workers & I took up a colection of our favorite knives & sent all at once to Bodecote.

Ms. Olga Smith is a treasure, she called me a couple of time during the process to ensure that particular details were exactly to my specifications. Fantastic customer service.

Now on to the knives I had diamond DLC'd:
Spyderco Dyad & worker, Benchmade griptilian, Camillus EDC, Kershaw vapor & stiff kiss, Tekna dive knife.

A few were scratched up, so I had them blasted prior to coating & the others were in new condition, so they were just coated.

The blasted knives are very mat finished, almost looks parkarized, dark grey/black. The others that were only coated retained the brushed finish & will stay almost scratch proof.

Of the ones just coated, you can still see the printing on the blades, it looks great.

To Ms. Smith & the entire Bodecote staff, THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!

How many knives did you have to send so they would do the work for you? How much was it? How long did you wait?

I emailed Bodecote a month or so ago & Ms. Smith emailed back saying to send my order to her attention.

I sent 7 knives, the folders disasembled except for the worker & the 2 sheath knives total was $101 plus shipping.

I am sure it was a hassle for bodycote to keep track of all the loose parts, but I did not know if the coating would get in all the nooks & cranys, but the worker looks as good as the knives that were completely disassembled, except for 1 tiny spot on the blade near the pivot that was not coated that shows when closed, they must have coated it while open, which I prefer.

If sending any folders, if possible just remove the blade, so it will be fully protected, the inside of the handles do get coated.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the heads up!!!

I'd been wondering a large order would be accepted, ever since Bodycote stopped doing individual orders. I'm going to have to assemble a collection of blades now...

Did you have your Worker completely coated? like is it 100% black SS handle and all? I'm asking cuz i saw some 100% black coated SS Dragonflies and other spydies at bladeart.com.. but they were going for like over double the price of a regular one.

The coating is Diamond DLC & the worker is all stainless steel.

I had it blasted as it was scratched up & I wanted it not to be slippery.

Word of warning, blasting will dull your edge & you will need to resharpen the knife. Also, if you blast a knife tht does not come apart, you might need to soak it in oil to get all the blast particles out of the action.

I soaked my worker in perform overnight & it was a lot smoother action, but you don't have that problem if just coating the knife.

I am unable to post pix, but if you email me at uncleknife@yahoo.com I will send you some pix after I borrow a digital camera. I tried to scan the knives, but it just does not do the knives justice.

Sorry, I forgot to answer the "why" question.

I really tend to baby my knives as I hate a scuffed up knife.
When they get shabby looking I usually end up selling or giving them away.
I am hoping that they will stay new looking much longer as well as to provice extra rust protection ( except where I wear off the coating from sharpening the edge)

My stiff kiss will stay as a dedicated rescue knife on my pfd for kayaking. The others are just regular carry knives.

I kind of wished I got the EDC rainbow coated, but I am very happy with what I got.

Note:
I would contact Bodycoat Ms. Smith BEFORE sending anything to them, she didn't say so, but she might have just honored my order as I discussed it with her before they stopped taking individual orders.
This is the first I heard of them not taking orders, but Check first.
