I decided that I was finally ready for a "nice" laser. I decided on a Jayrob pocket mini kit with a 6x Blu Ray diode and a glass AR coated lens. Total cost was in the neighborhood of $200. I don't have a laser power meter (yet,) but I'd estimate that with 208 ma going in, I have around 250 mw out the front (It burns like a sonofabitch.) The bright green thing is a Uranium glass marble fluorescing. Beamshots are with smoke added. Note that the color is not blue, but a deep violet. Bic lighter and Fenix P2D provided for scale.

Yikes! Cool- I really don't need another obsession right now, but thanks for trying!

Well crap. Now I NEED one! Where is a tutorial and where do you track down the diodes and other needed parts? We need info!

Please :D:D:D

haha what is the purpose of this awesome device?

Awesome is an end in and of it self:D

For all those interested, check out http://laserpointerforums.com/. There's more information there than you could possibly digest. Look in the Laser Pro Shop section for kits and such. Diodes can be found at http://modwerx.com/shop/ and http://hightechdealz.com/.

More exotic diodes will likely require the purchase and gutting of a drive. 8x & 12x Blu-Ray burners have diodes that can put out over a half-watt

250 mw isn't enough to really set stuff on fire, but when focused, it'll smoke leather, burn paper, Focused to infinity instead of a fine point, it will still burn exposed skin. Flash paper and similar products would burn, of course.
