Hey all,
Mike spells about as well as Bailey, but he managed to etch his logo without any problem.
This subhilt has a 6 1/2" blade, 11 3/8" overall. Mike thinned the blade width down to correspond with the shortened blade length. He had posted here a back around October, and seemed sincere to me. I have been looking for someone to make a Loveless style subhilt IN THE STYLE of Loveless for about 10 years. I always came up flat. I think that Geno Denning aka Caveman Engineering does great work, but was looking for someone closer to the pure Loveless style, who I could be sure at least made part of the knife themselves. Mike fits the bill, as hopefully you all can see by the picture attached.
He came very close to the expected delivery date, as close as any full-time maker can. The blade is made of ATS-34, with 416 SS fittings. Ivory micarta scales, tapered tang, and aluminum lined thong tube. There are red spacers between the tang and scales, which are done about as close to perfect as one can expect.
The blade is made of 3/16" stock, and Mike was a little hesitant about making this knife, but he did not let on when I was e-mailing him. The point is super pointy, and the thing that I would emphasize is that the grinds are deep, and this knife is very fast in the hand. It is a purpose built knife, but I will not use it. This one stays cherry for sure. I have posted in the past that Mike is someone to watch, and hopefully from this picture, you all feel the same way. I have a Chute knife ordered and hope to get it sometime this year.
Mike knows my friend Louis Chow very well, and Louis is very, very picky about his Loveless styled knives, and encouraged me to order a knife from Mike. I am glad that I did.
(sorry for the crappy resolution, I had to resize the pic 6 times to make it small enough to fit)
Best Regards,
STeven Garsson
