got my matriarch today - paid $59.95- came in a black box, no spyderco markings on it, w/a yellow tag w/make model stamped on it - very happy w/it - good fit and finish - no instructions, etc, though i guess none really needed - really happy w/it though - its SHARP a bud looking at it already cut himself lol........if ya need a good self defense folder this 1 looks pretty good...noticed that www.knifecenter.com, where i bought it no longer lists the matriarch - wonder how come? guess i just got lucky this time ........

?????? WTF, no its not a "knock off" - what in the world would make you say that???

Mr. Spyderco Sir,

I sincerely hope knifecenter is not selling knockoff Spydercos. If they were, I'd hope someone would have told us and them off by now. The gentleman refered to as Vet95LT1 is a connesiouer of fine cutlery. I have full confidence he can distinguish between a well made Spyderco product and a sloppily fitted worthless R.O.C. imitation genuine novelty letter extraction device. Many other distinguished members of this forum, or possibly the other one (I forget) have also received their Spyderco Matriarchs with similiar packaging. I think may be a result of Spyderco wanting to distance itself from models which may be seen by more conservative (read: "narrow minded") legislators and members of the general public (read: "sheeple") as dangerous weapons. It is, perhaps, the same reason many members of this forums, while pleased to see some of their favorite products on the "big screen," were displeased to see them used in a violent manner in the movie from which you seemingly derive your name. Things of this nature are viewed as "negative publicity" and potentially damaging to our long term rights to keep and bear Spydercos.

If I am off base here, please set me straight. Thanks for you time, and I hope not to offend, disgruntle, or displease....

I got a couple new Matriarchs from the Knifecenter about a week ago (already had three grey ones). They are the real thing, no doubt about it.

Sorry no offense, meant but mentioned that it didn't come with any paper work. Spidie always carry the manufacture warranty etc.... Well my civie did anyway. It just sounded like a knock off one or a grey one meant for export. Thats all but you got a great price on it, thats for sure. I think the mat is going for 80 in california

well, this 1 came w/no warranty info, nor even a catalog (have never seen the mat in 1 anyway...) just the knife and a plain black wrapper (box) - it is made by spyderco too by the way...but understand the confusion as the price was low -BUT have seen them at www.knifeoutlet.com for $44.95, so if ya hunt ya can get a deal - i agree w/the chief, spyderco is trying to ditance themselves from this model IMHO

too bad they think like that, its a good knife - and i never would have heard about it w/out the forum - thanks guys (and gals) !!

the civilian has GIN steel blade, and the mat has ATS55 - maybe not much differnce, but some - wonder why?? why not same steel for both??

IMHO, i wouldnt pay $200 for a civvy when ya can get a mat for so low a price - doesnt make sense to me - but different strokes for different folks - whatever makes ya happy - i might would pay the difference if the civvy had liner lock or something like that, to really make it really different looking.....

anyway thanks to all, and have a good week!!
