got my matriarch today - came in a plain black box (which looked like it had been opened and closed about 50 times) w/a white stick label w/matriarch and mod # on it - no instructions, catalog, nothing - box does not say spyderco on it - but the knife is great - very sharp, well made - very happy w/it at $59.99 thats for sure - got it from www.knifecenter.com, but was showing a bud last night and they no longer list it - list the civilian only - wonder what happened? anyway really like it , and i think i was lucky too find for that price - blade is sharp, my bud cut himself looking at it so it has already drawn first blood lol.....

I just got one myself. Is yours a 2001 model with the little divot milled out of the lock release? Mine also came in a sterile black box, but with a yellow label on it. Funny how it also didn't say Spyderco either. According to the sticker, my knife was born on the 27th of last month, so it's really about as minty fresh as it can get. I love this thing, almost as much as my G-10 Civilian. My particular example has this nicest lockup out of pretty much any Zytel Spyderco that I own or have handled. Apparently these are wide open to the public now, since I got one for me and one for a buddy through a dealer up here in Canada with no questions asked. Great price too!

I got my Matriarch from steve@knifesite.com. He's in B.C. Shoot him an email and chances are he'll be right back to you within minutes! A pleasure to deal with for sure, and no provincial sales tax since I'm in Ontario. If he's got any left I'm sure that they'll move fast.

i saw 1 sight that had them for $44.95 - will check and see if i can find - they did not say for sure if in stock though.....
 
hey mine also appears to be an old style, and nothing about a date on the box....just make and mod

I've got a few Spydies, including a Matriarch, with that same style box. FWIW, I think it may be a function of which factory produces the piece,
