Got my Mini Manix today

I got back from a week's vacation at the beach last night. I checked out a Mini Manix the weekend before I left, and I really wanted it, but I thought I should hold out as I was going to a visit dealer while on holiday who sometimes had older (collectable) Spydercos. Well, I still had that picture of the Mini Manix in my head as I checked out a Civilain and a Waved Delica, but I managed to be strong and held out.

First day back home I rushed down to my local dealer, checked out the 2 Mini Manix models they had in stock and made my choice. They also had a full size Manix but it feels quite a bit bigger and heavier to me.

Back home I removed the Dodo from my pocket which went with me on holiday, cleaned it, oiled it and put it away. Out came the Mini Manix, got it's share of TLC and went into my pocket. I know what I'll be carrying for the next couple of weeks :D It just feels so good in the hand and boy, can this blade cut!

I'm really impressed with Eric Glesser's designs. The Mini Manix will join the Dodo and ParaMilitary on my list of favorites. Maybe it's the G10 / CPM-S30V combo ;)

While I was out buying, I picked up a Byrd Meadowlark as a birthday gift. This is the 3rd Byrd I have bought as a gift. The others were a Crow and a Cara Cara. They just seem like a decent bang for the buck.

I'm a happy chappy as I sit here typing this :D :D :D

What a fine and thorough review there Mr. Blonde. And great pictures to boot. My hat's off to you.

And congrats to you Andre on your new Mini Manix. It sounds just like the type knife I should be carrying.

The Mini is my current favorite till the Caly 3 comes out. If the size of the Mini was reduced by a third it would be perfect for me.

The mini Manix was a big lesson in life to me. It was one of those knives that I had a real "ho-hum" attitude about after seeing it in the catalogs and seeing other guys pictures of it. But when I finally obtained one in an obscure trade I made with a fellow Bladeforums brother I was so pleasantly surprised that I was beside myself.

The 80mm Manix impressed me about on the same level as the LiL Temperance did when I got my first one of them. The smaller Manix is one of the very best built knives of that blade size I have ever encountered. It's also amazing to me how totally different in a lot of ways that it and it's big brother are. This knife is a slam dunk. There is no way you could go wrong getting one >> barring personal design preference of course. But as far as ridgid quality and performance it's a sure win.

I just purchased a Mini Manix from someone on the forums, and I am waiting (very unpatiently, I might add) for it to come in the mail.

Also this is my second quality knife purchase, the first being my Benchmade 42, and it is my first purchase using the forums. I will try to post a review and pics once I get it.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that somehow I am going to have to keep this blade out of sight from my mom. The other day she forbid me from buying anymore knives, but I just couldn't help picking this one up! I got my dad's blessing though, who let me ship it to his workplace to avoid my mom seeing it. This is going to be tough...

I'm 16. I have a job and make good grades, but apparently that doesn't qualify me to buy stuff without my mom getting angry?

sorry colin8 i`m not having a go at you . i`m 21 and still live with my parents , they reckon knives are a waste of money:jerkit: my parents crack a sad when everytime i buy a new one :) i beleive that if you work for it and you paid for it , and you were responsible with said knife why should they care if you buy it?

Yeah I didn't think you were 'having a go at me'. I agree with you 100%.

Well anyways, I just receieved my Mini Manix and wow I am in awe. This is a beautiful knife. Very solid and well built, no blade play at all. I have handled the full Manix before and from what I remember about the Manix, the Mini doesn't seem to be much smaller at all. There is definitely nothing mini about this Mini. I am quite happy with this knife, especially for $70.

sounds like a great knife mate , i hope you enjoy it. i can`t wait till my millie shows up

Colin8 and Sirgalant, let this be a lesson to you. I'm referring to the unhappy mom thing, because it should prepare you for selecting a tolerant wife one day. If you mess up the selection, you thought your moms were unhappy  I was very lucky in my selection. She buys me knives for my birthday and our anniversary.

I'm still EDC'ing the Mini Manix. Growing more fond of it every day. Mine has a PE, so I'm carring a SE Dragonfly as well, not that there's much that the MM won't fly through.

ANDRE , my girlfriend is very tolerant of my knife collection shes bought me several knives. i gave her a couple of cheapies i didn`t want anymore.

The Mini-Manix is 83mm

Regards,
FRIZ

FRIZ I very kindly and respectfully disagree with you. I have 3 Manix models. I have 2 of the big Manix ( one CE and one PE) and I also have one small Manix which is the one I just wrote about. The small one is the model C-101GP. Also on the end of that factory box it says 80mm ( not 83).

Now there is something funny here though. Because I have both the big and small models out here on my desk. The smaller one actually measures just shy of 82mm  While the big Manix measures 95mm. I guess I need to know their protocol for measuring both knives. But the small Manix I got in the original factory box, model C-101GP says 80mm on the box. Also the big Manix is the C-95 model and it doesn't have any millimeter designation on it's box at all. IF I'm wrong here I'd like to know where?

If I remember correctly it was stated that the blade actually measures 83mm but was called the 80mm in the catalog which is now changed back to 83mm.
