The minion from USPS left 2 strange packages at my doorstep today.
Opened them with joyous glee, like a kid at christmas. First was a Kumar made JKM-1 with a wooden handle, fantastic looking knife, sheath was somewhat loose but dampening the sheath and moulding it took care of that.
Next was a 20 inch Sirupati with a wooden handle by Bura had minor rust but a few minutes with 440,600 sandpaper took care of that. Haven't been able to chop test them yet but will report on that later. Im infected with HIKV and can definately say I will buy more khukuri's from Uncle Bill and Yangdu.

Welcome depusm,

It is unlikely you will like them. Don't worry, with in a few days you will be looking to get rid of them. Most do.

Actually I think the 20 Inch Sirupati is speaking to me already, its saying "chop some wood with me", so I think these are gonna be keepers. Im thinking about putting "stag" type handles on my JKM-1 and a choil.

Actually...the wood JKM's are harder to get...you might want to get a regular horn one to redress to antler!

Update, well now the wood handled JMK-1 now has a choil. Bought a small half round file and went to work. It took maybe 45 minutes then smoothed it with wet/dry sandpaper starting at 220 going to 400 looks good. Now just gotta sharpen it more.

:D Any reasoning creature *must* appreciate a choil on a JKM...

The 20" Sirupati IS very nicely balanced. And with it's leverage you can accelerate it's relatively modest weight and make chips fly. I've got a very nice shop 2 20" Siru, and an early shop 2 20" Siru that is a good blade, but could be entered in a reservation ugliest dog contest and win! That one's my behind the truck seat khuk.

Great combo to start with!!! Double-bonus forum points for jumping in and doing a sheath AND steel mod within the first week. To complete all the requirements for your official HI badge, all you need is a little woodchucking! :D
