this is a totally unbiased review:D

I got the new Gunting in S30v, and this thing rocks. It is sosharp, I was afraid of it. The grind lines are fantastic. It cuts like a scalpel-this thing is sharp! The knife feels different, and it's obviously been tweaked in really small ways. Some of these ways are: the new G-10. This is the best. it's like sandpaper. This is the grippiest g-10 I've ever held. It seems thicker. Not by much-I'd have to get a micrometer out to see, but it feels heftier somehow. The lockup is great, the compression lock seems to travel less, but locks up like ti on steel, really grabby. The clip has been shifted like a millimeter towards the back of the handle, and seems taller (between the scales and the clip). The Ramp's edges-on the tip, tne front and back, are all cut really well-much sharper than I'd expected. I'm so happy-You will be too! The new G is incredible. the handle/liner junction is perfect-no empty space. it looks like they were ground together. Go Buy One!! Now, fools! It's really sharp! It's new and Improved! I need a CRMPIT!--Joe

Sal, Why are the labels on the box yellow?

Looks like I'll be needing a new Gunting soon then.

Grippier G10 handles sound very appealing.

What I wonder is how tight the tension on the pivot is and if it might come a little loose over time?

It's unfortunate that they are no longer adjustable.

I am glad you like your new G! From which dealer did you obtain this little gem?

Being new around here, I have the same question. Are the new Guntings widely available yet, or do we still need to wait a while?

WHAT! How do you mean, they aren't adjustable? I hadn't heard that part yet. . . I'm adjusting mine all the time, and I like to keep them real tight, so that the blade can't be opened intertially. . . . the new ones won't do me any good if I can't tighten them . . .

The Pivots are still adjustable! Sal changed from an eccentric pivot to a regular one. I don't really know what this means, but the pivot bolt is still adjustable, just like the old ones. Oh, and I got mine from some guy named Bram..:D . Hey, Lunumbra, are you coming for the camp next month?--Joe

Does the Skunksworks belt holster still work with the grippier G-10 or will Frank O. need to make a new line of holsters?

Wow I must've read something totally wrong then. I thought the pivot point was going to be riveted.

If I were you..I'd buy what you want now...
RIGHT now..
AS Sal posted way back when..Guntings are only made to match the existing orders..not to stock up shelves..or inventory..
And there's a few left as I understand...

Yes..its ultra grippy G10...talked with Les and he said its only the way the top screening on the resin caused this..well I say GREAT....
its like micro spikes...

Hi Bram, sorry to correct you but all models are built to stock shelves as inventory. We backed up on all of the models as we re-engineered every Golden model. With the refinments, we are now caught up on all existing models, except the "live G" and it will be caught up next month. After we catch up, they will be on the shelf. We never ran out of trainers.

Thanks Sal..you just go ahead and correct me..don't be sorry....its the only way for one to learn..I have obviously been mistaken .....
no problemo..
Whatever you say...
You're there and I'm not....

I'm just happy to have the re engineered Guntings..
Haven't seen a re-engineered Drone but I guess that's pretty easy to do with the live blade done..
of course it doesn't matter I guess if you still got DRones left from before..in stock

Anyways..thanks for informing me and for getting Guntings made....
learn something new each day..

Are there not three knives in this series? Sharp, not so sharp, and dull. Three different colours. So far I have only seen two on the Spidie site, while others on the net seem to have all three in demo form or something.

I'm never that impressed to get a knife that's sharp, any more than a car that runs. Though I'm used to getting all maner of woodworking tools that need sharpening I guess. What does impress me is how well my triangle sharpener has been working for 20+ years.

Protac-
There are 3 versions-2 are available ffrom Spyderco. There is a red trainer (drone) with a dull blade, and rounded edges on the ramp and horns. There is a live blade (black) with sharp horns and a sharp boxed-off ramp. Then there is the CRMIPT, blue with a dull blade, but sharp horns and ramp, as on the live blade version. I need to add that this knife came out of the box sharper than any knife i've ever bought. Some folks count on that, and I feel that if a company is going to send me a knife I have to sharpen before using, then they can keep it.--Joe

Crmipt's are available only from Bram.

We are pleased to say that we will be caught up on all backorders on Live Guntings next week. We should be able to maintain inventory from then on.

Joe,

thanks for the help.

On sharpness:

1) A knife that can't be sharpened is a joke.

2) A knife that comes with lots of work still to be done on the edge is pretty nasty.

3) A knife that is easily sharpened is a joy.

4) A knife that holds it edge is useful.

5) A knife that has a really sharp edge out of the box, may not have any of the benefits to be sought in 1, 2, 3, or 4.

I totally agree with you that knives should come sharp. At the same time, I have little control over how many paper cutting demos they have suffered before being sold to me.
