So i got my new paramilitary 2 today in s30v from KW (who i love) and all excited etc opened it . and then my mood changes... theres some sort of defect on the blade... almost like a overpolished mark or over heat treat .. see pic ... i plan on returning it most likely for another... i do have a question. does anyone else think its a touch too big in the handle? maybe since my last EDC was a mini ritter grip this is a big jump in size from that.. otherwise i LOVE it still trying to get the hang of the spyderhole and flicking it open (any tips would help) last but not least i was considering the KW exclusive satin ZT 0350 or maybe a smaller spyderco like a sage etc... or should i just get the para 2 again and let it grow on me (sorry for the crap photo took on my android and it focused on the carpet vs the blade) wifey took the good camera to work

its definitely not oil or grease i ran it under water and lightly cleaned with soft washcloth (it cut right through it :) )

That is really weird, I have never seen that before. Try some soap before you send it back.

Either way, I'm sure KW will take care of you.

its almost as if when they applied the spider logo it messed up the heat treat or coating on the knife...maybe overspray from the stencil they use??

i rubbed it pretty hard with soap and a wet washcloth and rubbed with a dry cloth its not coming off whatever it is..

The bug logo is cut with a laser. Look at it under magnification as its pretty neat looking. The laser wouldn't have caused that and I'm not real sure what it is. It could be discoloration from the heat treat process that didn't get completely cleaned up. I have had small spots of discoloration in the past and its never been a big deal or caused any downside but its never been that big. Even if it was somehow caused by heat its not on the edge so the edge should be fine. How noticeable is it in person? If it bothers you return it and ask Roger to examine the replacement for anything that bothers you.

Edit: I just looked and I guess the Golden made knives use an electric stencil to put the bug logo on. I had seen what I was talking about earlier today and though it was my para but its thee logo on the Gayle Bradley that is made with the laser.

yeah im just worried about possible resale value in the future (im getting a CTS-20cp and a M390) and also its pretty noticeable ill try to take a better pic

They'll take care of it for you (kw). My suggestion is to keep the Para2... It is my favorite edc... Pure Perfection.

The handle seems big for the size of the blade at first, but once you get used to it, you should come to appreciate why they made it that way. It allows for an incredible grip (actually a variety of grips) and the butt can be used as a non lethal impact or control device.

yeah im keeping it..(after i replace the defective one). its already growing on me... can't wait for the CTS-20CP to get here and then the m390 in spring.... by then i should be a full on Para 2 junkie ;)

When I first put the Para2 into my carry rotation I thought it was a little big. Now it IS my carry rotation! I'd give the Para a try even if you exchange it.

Wouldn't get greasey gunk off. It looks like they missed a spot with the buffer . Still, I'd try a solvent before declaring it "defective".

its definitely not on the surface looks more like a missed spot on buffer ... anyways i already called and they are taking it back....

Flitz polish and a micro fiber cloth would get that off. Don't know if you have any though

I didnt want to go nuts on a knife i know i can easily return for a new one ..knifeworks already gave me my RMA# and they are fine with sending a new one... their customer service rocks..sticking with the para 2 s30v.. it will be my user till my M390 comes..
