Well, received a new Schrade Sharpfinger, today. For some reason, I have loved this knife since I first saw it when I was 10 y.o. The shape, design, hand comfort, and the simple, old-fashioned style appeal to me. I think it is one of the best values (got this one for $18.95) out there for a great low-tech fixed-blade.

Anyone else like it?
Happy Knifing!

The Sharpfinger is definately a real bargain. I have had one for a while now. My son has pretty much taken it away from me and uses it quite often for whittling. I do get to handle it every once in a while when he brings it to me for sharpening :)

I have'nt found an Old Timer that I don't like!
Schrade makes some terrific traditional knives.

Enjoy,
Allen.

Yep, one Sharpfinger and two Wolverines (same pattern in 440A steel).
Great inexpensive knives. They also fit nicely into small space if you wish to conceal it or carry in a waist pouch.

I've always thought the Sharpfinger was kind of a neat looking knife, too. Just before Christmas, our nearest WallyWorld was selling them for $14.99, leather sheath and all. Hard to believe that I still don't own one. I WILL change that. Has anyone tried the gut hook version?

I guess I bought my Sharpfinger in the mid 80's & it is still going strong, even if it does look like an old hammer ;)
I keep saying that 'someday' I'll cut of the scales and attempt to put on something nicer.
Great knife, great choice, enjoy it :)

I've had mine for a year or so, bought it for £7 (US$12-ish). Lovely shape to it, holds an edge well, and has been so far indestructible.

In case anyone didn't already know, Marc "Animal" McYoung likes it too, it's claimed it's his main utility and self defense blade in his book "Knives, knife fighting, and related hassle". Many "tactical" users of knives might not agree, but if they made a version with G-10 scales and a bead-blasted blade of some super steel or other, I reckon a lot of them could be converted.:)

A Sharpfinger was the first fixed blade knife I ever really wanted because of it's unique look, way back when my parents thought better of it. I ended up getting an Old Timer stockman as my first knife, and many years (and scars) later it is still a great little knife.

Has anyone ever seen the Sharp Finger's big brother, The Deer Slayer? That is a fantastic knife longed discontinued but easy to find on Ebay. Very well made and a bargain to boot. Inexpensive knives that actually work very well. I have never met an Old tiimer I didn't like either.

I appreciate reading comments about basic knives that work very well.

Good post Mr. Monkey

I saw that mentioned during an inquiry of Perrin knives on a search engine.I have one with fake ivory scales and recently got another with fake stag scales.I truly believe that these are the best value on the knife market Today.tom.;)

My only beef with Old Timers is the scales they put on them. For another couple bucks you could get some bone on there and they would be perfect.

Got one, like it a bunch! I agree with the scale comments, for the most part. They are alright, but alternate material would be nice. I don't think it would be very hard to change them on your own. In general, Schrades are good, hard working knives.

I like the sawcut delrin scales for a hard working knife. I think bone just is'nt durable enough.
Now some red or white micarta scales would be awesome!

Allen.
