Got my Pacific Salt today thanks to knifeworks.com's super fast shipping (Seriously, I ordered thursday morning and got it friday afternoon via standard ground shipping).
Initial impressions:
Very sharp. Not the sharpest spyderco I've pulled out of the box but it is a shaver. The tip isnt as blunt as I thought, but that's ok, I was worried it would be too blunt. It feels great in my hand. It's a little rougher around the edges of the handle than my E4s, but the older Endura style handle was like that for me too. Now, I'd prefer liners in the handle (because I dont think its a significant weight difference and I prefer the extra strength), but I know the reason why and I can accept that. In fact it's better without them for the water use purposes. I LOVE the jimping on the blade. Its much tougher than on any of my E4s. The clip is very tight, but thats ok since it will be clipped in my swim trunks in the waters of San Juan.
Two unfortunates:
1. The blade came with a couple burrs on the mid section of the blade. I can fix that but that's usually not typical for spyderco.
2. Blade deployment is kind of stiff. Its still ok, but my E4s are much smother.
Two thing that are/seem different than I expected:
1. The screws are well.. screws. Not pins like I thought it was supposed to be. Hope the screws are H1 as well.
2. I seriously think my pocket clip is plastic. Nothing about the look, feel, or sound (by tapping on it) of it makes me thing it's titanium (or whatever alloy its supposed to be made of).
Overall I like it a lot and cant wait to get it to the beach. Hopefully I'll get to test the edge retention too, since I'm still unsure of how well it'll perform.
PICS! (please ignore the dog hair on the rug)
