I don't remember seeing this in any of the pictures. There is a cutout at the bottom-side of the tang above the choil that is blackened. I don't know why it's there for or why it's that color. It runs all the way to parallel with the pivot under the handle. MY only guess is that it allows room for the lock to engage closed, but why is it dark? it looks kinda ugly. I also wish the clip had been resized. The hole at the top that goes over the pivot pin is too large for this knife and looks misplaced. Other than that the knife is great. Fits my hand well, feels even more solid than the Military. It's nice to finally have all the great attributes of the Military in a Delica size. AND I LOVE THE SPYDERBUG NEXT TO THE THUMBHOLE!!!! I suggested that Spyderco use their logo more prominantly a long time ago. Did this by any chance happen by my recommendation?

It is probably black from being laser-cut. Look at the inside of the Hole. Same thing.

The cutout is the detent that holds the blade in the closed position. Look at the back of the knife when closed, and you will see that the lockbar engages it.

Just received mine 10 minutes ago !!!

Thanks, Newgraham !!!

My question is: Next to the hole, on the oposite side of the bug, there's a symbol. Do anyone know what symbol is this ?

The knife is great ! Just need to adjust the pivot to my desired tension and tie up a parchute cord and I'm ready to go ! WOW !!!

I just got a Native III yesterday and was wondering this afternoon what that symbol was. Kind of obvious once you know what it is. :o :)

Carlos, I did notice that same color inside the hole and on the back of the tang. I think you're correct about it being from the laser. And yes, that symbol is Sal Glesser's signature that he puts on his newer knives. It's on the ATR and some others I'm sure. His son, Eric, also has his own symbol that's on the reverse side of the Dodo and Scorpius.

I've seen some paras that have this cutout and some that don't.
Why is it? Are there actually two different versions that were made differently? Well.. I'm not sure of all this since I'd seen them in pictures only. anyone have any info on this?

I received my paramilitary today also. I love the improved lock. It unlocks much easier than my other compression lock spydercos. Other than the slight vertical play it is perfect. My new favorite spydie. :)

mine doesn't have any play in any direction...yay! :D but i would also like to know the answer to myoung's question.

It's funny because my Para doesn't have the full length cutout. Mine starts very close to the handle and is pretty shallow in contrast to Jedi's.

Hmm, well thanks Sal for that info. Could anyone possibly post a pic of the different cutouts next to eachother? I think I have the longer one, but I'd like to see if it's that big a deal.
