Got my picks down to a SFC C-1 or CRK Sebenza?

I have been pouring over posts and the web for the last week trying to narrow down my choices. This will be my first knife over $400 and I'm looking for a little help deciding.

Thanks,

Personally I'd go for the large Sebenza 21. $40 cheaper, and it has a heat-treated lock-bar face. I don't know what SFC's warranty is like on their knives, but I do know that CRK's is excellent, and that CRK has been around for over 25 years--I'd trust CRK to be in business years from now when I may want to refurbish my knives.

The SFC C-1 is a bit smaller than the Large Sebenza, but bigger than the small. Kinda seems like the in between sized knife that CRK enthusiasts have been waiting for. Are you a tip up or tip down kinda of guy? Sebenza's are tip down carry only.

Have you given the Umnumzaan any consideration?

have to say I'm not a big fan of the milling on the SFC and you could get a small seb with a laser engraving or something else cool on it for the same amount

I like to carry tip up.. I was having a dilemma over the small and large sebenza. one to small, one too large. I think the SFC C-1 will be a nice fit.y.

I think there's something to be said for making a CRK one's first $300-400 purchase, if only because it provides a benchmark in terms of F&F, precision, build quality, and so forth.

Having said that, I'm sure the SFC C-1 is no slouch in terms of quality either, and unlike the Sebenza it may not be something you can pick up as easily down the line. Plus, if you greatly prefer the intermediate size of the SFC C-1, I'd say go for it. No matter how well-made or well-designed a knife is, it's tough to enjoy if it's not the right size for you. I traded away my Small Sebenza w/ Black Micarta Inlays a while back for precisely that reason; as great as everything else about the knife was, it was just a bit too small for me.

I don't own the SFC C-1 so I can't say much about it. However the Sebenza is an excellent knife in all aspects and CRK certainly takes care of you. IMO the Sebenza looks better too. :)

My sebenza is tip up....

Keep in mind too, something I didn't catch. I got the tanto sebenza for my first $400 purchase, but didn't realize until I got it that the blade on the tanto is a smidge shorter than the regular.

Just something to keep in mind. I plan on having mine customized :D the blade is perfect but i'm odd when it comes to handle preferences.

That's something else too, the sebenza line is full of options for customization. There are several guys on the forums that do great work as far as custom scales go

I'm still waiting for someone who does a TiAlN coating so the damn thing won't scuff on me a mere 2 days after I had the handles re-blasted and as well, I'd like a replacement blade with a harder steel like M390 or even S90V:thumbup:.

I gotta be honest. I Just sat down with my m390 tsek And the sebenza. And we had a date with my sharp maker. To be honest, I may not have beat on the sebenza quite as bad as I did the tsek, But there was a negligible difference in amount of use until dull. Mostly the seb was typical edc stuff, and the tsek was carving birch plywood... big difference but the tsek was one day and the seb several weeks

Long story short it didn't take very long at all to get the seb back to terrorizing arm hair. The tsek though took forever and still arm't as sharp

And that's with the diamond rods.

I'm tempted to pick up a bg42 lg benz next chance I get. I hear it takes a fantastic edge

I went with the SFC C-1, everyone has a Sebenza so it's not like I can't pick one up later. I'll post when it comes in. Thanks for all the info!
