Got my randall back today i sent my #5 back to randall to have a new handle put on and get a lefthanded sheath.
the old handle was the leather washer standerd randle handle it started coming loose after a year of use i had them put on a purple macarta handle.
the knife looks great and the handle feels very nice. five week turnaround time.
I'm very happy with the work they did and even happier to have my knife back.

Did you have to provide the purple Micarta? If so, where did you get it?

No randall suppled the purple micarta.
i would think one of the supply houses could provide it for you

lonegunman, I'm interested in what type of activity you engaged in to loosen up the leather handle. I've had several of those and never had a problem, and have a #1 on order with another leather handle. Those things survived WWII, Korea, and Vietnam so I'm curious as to what activity loosened yours. Did you use it a lot in a water environment, or what? Thanks for your consideration.

I used the knife one season for archery hunting carried it in my pack not on my belt
used it to field dress an elk clean and oiled it when i got home put some boot oil on the handle as it was looking alittle dry.
and stored the knife in a gun safe.
this winter when playing with the knife i noticed the handle was loose a half turn on the nut tightend it up.
this realy had nothing to do with my wanting to put a macarta handle on the knife also gary randall offerd to fix the handle for free.but sence i was planning to send it back for a lefthanded sheath i had them do the handle also.
I do beleave the leather handle would have lasted a lifetime in my case it was just a matter of taste.
