Well, maybe not so much a safequeen, I just beat the snot out of her and honestly, satin(or ghetto satin) is the way to go, a little water and not so much as a scratch on her. Don't mind my ghetto sheath, just waiting on my buy brown to come in the mail, but it does the trick. :D I oiled the handles too, I like them a little richer.

Nate does AMAZING work and really hooked me up, ALL of my Busses will be sent to him right off the bat. His convex edge geometry is VERY sturdy, and still push cut newspaper after beating it hard.

Thanks again.

That looks sweet. Im gonna have to have Nate work some magic for me sometime....

Ban must be a good teacher!

For sure the edge is beautiful, but is the functionality improved?

I'm very new to the obsession with knives so I'm in the learning process.

When I bought the ASH-1 it had a very obtuse rough grind on it. The first thing I did was convex and polish the edge, performance was vastly improved.

I then decided to strip her by hand was very annoyed by it so I sent it out to nate. He stripped it, put a satin finish on it and put a convex grind on her much better than my original. Now the knife chops like a machine, and this is a 6 inch blade we're talking about. I wish I took a pic of the woodpile I just chopped up and batoned outside for my woodstove. It's massive, and it only took me about 30 minutes of chopping. When I get my battle mistress, it's getting the convex/satin treatment as well.

This is after some very rough chopping and batoning, I hit the ground more than once. The knife push cut thin paper easily, but tore the paper in a couple spots. I figured out it was due to wood chunks and dirt still on the actual edge. After I cleaned it it would glide through paper again. I stropped it for maybe 30 seconds with some .5 compound and I could whittle hair again.

What's sad is, I have a chainsaw, it's just a lot more satisfying to chop with a knife.

Too bad you dont live closer. You would have a blast at one of chop fests. Search my the threads Ive made and you can find some pics and videos of them.

I've seen some of the videos, I don't know why I find chopping so much fun, but it is.

If I lived closer i'd be in your shop though bugging you to teach me how to do a proper satin finish :D
