I just rcvd my Seamaster and I really love it. I have looked at the Submariner by Rolex and have lusted over them for awhile because my parents both have Rolex's, although after comparing the SMP and the Submariner I am really not as impresssed with the Submariner as before I had seen it in person. I think I will stick with the SMP, if the Submariner drops about 2k I will consider it :D

Congrats man, I am sure you will enjoy it. I know that I haven't regretted buying mine for a minute.

BTW, which version did you get?

Westflorida, I lusted for the Sub for many years too....until I discovered the SMP. ;)

I wear a SMP and it is a fantastic time piece. I am not a big fan of the stick and ball Rolex hands.

Congrats, I keep thinking I need one, but I spend the moeny on a knife before it gets saved up.

Every time I see SMP I say Symetrical Multi Processors in my head.

I have one and really like it too. I can't wear it all the time though or it would get trashed immediately. So I alternate with my Seikos, Fortis and Glycine the rest of the time.

Great choice. I have had 2 Seamasters at different times and really enjoyed them both. The Rolex Submariners are extremely nice watches, don't knock them if you haven't had one...

Ed,

I am not knocking the Submariner, I actually would love to have one. Although, I thought I was going to be blown away when I looked at it and it was not as impressive as I thought a $4,000 watch should have been. I think if I am really going to save up that kind of money I will buy a Panerai :)

Don't hold your breath on the price dropping $2k. I've had a datejust since 1982. Wear it everywhere...and I mean everywhere. Got it for $500 (half price from a friend of a dealer). It now sells for about $2.5k.

Hey, I have a Panerai GMT on right now! You like some nice timepieces. I think the Omega Seamaster is a bit flashier and more of an upbeat more striking watch. I like the no date sub because it is actually pretty plain and subtle. You made a great choice...enjoy!

Just don't care for a cyclops, maybe when I am older, and more blind. :D

FWIW rolex had a fairly substantial price increase about a month ago, i looked at some subs wed and was told they had gone up 10% IIRC, the sub i was looking t was SS black and $2900, 99% shape a good deal imho, rolex watches go up not down lol.

honestly they are getting so high i would be hesitant about buying a new one now, my GMT11 has gone up in retail price about $2K in the last 5 yrs, almost double what i paid for it ($3K), if nothing else they are good investments.

also have a pan GMT ithas gone up some also since '98 when i got it, great watch though, my wife wears it now mostly which is strange a women w/a big watch like that lol. i got it before eraser came out and everyone had to have one, when i got it no one knew what pan was, my bud got it while overseas in the army, was gonna lose it in a pawn shop, i got it outta pawn (about $300) and gave him $300, not a bad deal if i say so. and he didnt come ou too bad he thought he only paid about $1K for it so no biggie guess.

my dad wore a omega seamaster for many yrs, still have his an early '70s model, have always liked the things, there is nothing wrong with omega at all imho. his has never been servicd, probbly should though but it still runs fine, and i never wear it anymore. ruggd watch though.
