So, I stopped at the mailbox on my way to work today and lo and behold, there was the package from Gunsmoke containing my Sebenza 21.
I grabbed it, and drove to work. When I got there I had some things to do so I left the package un-opened on my desk in my office and went about my business.
Later on once things had quieted down I remembered the package and a couple guys I work with came back to my office with me to check out what I had gotten.
It's hard to describe just how I felt upon examining this knife for the first time. I had been prepared to be underwhelmed and maybe even a little disapointed but I experienced the complete opposite of that.
Like I said, it's hard to describe. Those of you who said you have to actually handle one in person to fully appreciate it were dead on.
You can't get a sense of the knife from pictures. You have to see it in all its dimensions to truly appreciate the elegance of the lines. The chamfering along the scales softens what appears to be a squared mono block of metal in a photograph on a flat page. The elegant lines, so pleasing to the eye created by the ever so slight sweep of the spine, from the tip of the blade to back of the knife.
The smoothness of the blade as glides up to a satisfying click, then the bank vault solid lock up. It is functional art.
The dimensions of the knife seem to give it a perfect balance that is difficult to describe. The grip just seems to melt into your hand and the feel of the blade screams precision. The color of the scale - rather than monochromatic - is a soft mixture of hues; both dark and light, with a warmth similar to that of an old coin. Very pleasing and soothing to the eye.
I was surprised by its light weight, I expected it to be much heavier than it is. It rides very nicely in the pocket. Much more so than either my Strider SNG or my ZT 0551.
All in all, I expected disapointment and fell instantly in love. Rather than buyer's remorse, I'm already plotting the purchase of my next one.
Seriously speaking guys, there are very few things in this world that live up to the hype people create for them. But I gotta say this is one hell of a nice knife.
What the hell just happened to me?!?
