So, I stopped at the mailbox on my way to work today and lo and behold, there was the package from Gunsmoke containing my Sebenza 21.

I grabbed it, and drove to work. When I got there I had some things to do so I left the package un-opened on my desk in my office and went about my business.

Later on once things had quieted down I remembered the package and a couple guys I work with came back to my office with me to check out what I had gotten.

It's hard to describe just how I felt upon examining this knife for the first time. I had been prepared to be underwhelmed and maybe even a little disapointed but I experienced the complete opposite of that.

Like I said, it's hard to describe. Those of you who said you have to actually handle one in person to fully appreciate it were dead on.

You can't get a sense of the knife from pictures. You have to see it in all its dimensions to truly appreciate the elegance of the lines. The chamfering along the scales softens what appears to be a squared mono block of metal in a photograph on a flat page. The elegant lines, so pleasing to the eye created by the ever so slight sweep of the spine, from the tip of the blade to back of the knife.

The smoothness of the blade as glides up to a satisfying click, then the bank vault solid lock up. It is functional art.

The dimensions of the knife seem to give it a perfect balance that is difficult to describe. The grip just seems to melt into your hand and the feel of the blade screams precision. The color of the scale - rather than monochromatic - is a soft mixture of hues; both dark and light, with a warmth similar to that of an old coin. Very pleasing and soothing to the eye.

I was surprised by its light weight, I expected it to be much heavier than it is. It rides very nicely in the pocket. Much more so than either my Strider SNG or my ZT 0551.

All in all, I expected disapointment and fell instantly in love. Rather than buyer's remorse, I'm already plotting the purchase of my next one.

Seriously speaking guys, there are very few things in this world that live up to the hype people create for them. But I gotta say this is one hell of a nice knife.

What the hell just happened to me?!?

aaaahhh..... Unboxing your new crk is always a welcome feeling, it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Congrats on your score bro, and good luck on keeping any semblence of self control when faced with the decision to pull the triiger or not on that newer shinier seb. :)

Glad to hear you liked it right out of the box.

They are like potato chips - you can't stop at just one.

Now it's time to round out your collection with at least an Umnum and a Nyala.

I felt like was reading a romance novel.
You have some will power there brother. To let that knife just sit there waiting to be opened. But I guess that's to be expected being that you were so underwhelmed.
Congrats bro and get yourself a micarta next.
Oh and by the way we are not going to let you get away with not posting pictures.

Some more thoughts after taking a fresh look this morning. I picked it up and realized that something about this knife seemed very familiar to me. After playing around with it for a while I realized what it is. It reminds me of my BM 710 - albeit a titanium 710 on steroids.

That's not damning with faint praise; the 710 is one of my all time favorite knives. I think it's the slender profile that lends itself to the similarity.

Whatever it is, I was imstantly comfortable with it. I've been cutting everything in sight. :)

Guys I apologize in advance for my pathetic attempt with crappy cell phone pics. It's pretty much the best I can do. I also apologize for the messy fly tying desk. The only place I have with an overhead light. :o

i just got my 21 and i had a hard time deciding between the sebenza and umnum, but i know that i'll need one before i can put my mind at ease ;)

also, i noticed that my 21 has it's first "character mark" AKA scratch. it doesnt even bother me either. it's on the front by the CR logo, but it's just a very light scratch on the Ti that could be easily polished out, but i'm going to leave it.

i'll admit, in my case, i was underwhelmed when i first opened the sebenza. i never had felt one before, and i didn't like how the Ti felt a little gritty IMO. the blade was not sharp at all, and wasn't "buttery" like many other users had described it as. but, after using it and fondling it daily, it's now easily my favorite and most carried knife, and definitely not my last CRK.

You got bit by the CRK bug, my friend!

Welcome to the club, George -- now you know of what we speak!

BTW, it looks like GunSmoke did a nice job Scotch-briting the scales. I like 'em refinished that way too:

He sure did, but judging from those pics you're no slouch in that dept yoursel there my friend. How about a little tutorial post on the procedure? :)

By the way I should have listened to you sooner when you tried to tell me how nice these knives are. :D

I have been saying this for ages.
Congrats and enjoy your new purchase......:)

A beautiful piece of post. I absolutely believe I am going to have me one.

I do not have an emotional attachment to my Sebenza like I do with my other knives...maybe that's why I can beat the living hell out of it while the ones I do really really like are saved from harder use??? Maybe?? I think my Sebenza as my lil bastard and do take very good care of it. It is not like a mistress or a girlfriend...but kind of the wife that stays home and cooks, cleans and shuts the hell up? I do appreciate it but really don't brag about it like I do my XM-18 or even my William Henry B9 gentleman's folder or my Murray Carter Neck knife...YET I would be lost without it...weird huh? I think if CRK made a flipper that would be the holy grail of coolness!!!

Mucho congrat's to you on your purchase. It really doesn't take long to fall in love with these knives once you start using them.

Then you want a nice inlay, then a cool graphic, then ivory, then......

BP, welcome to the obsession. Now all you have to do is bling it up a little. A lanyard, lanyard pin, and some lanyard beads. Maybe a carrying pouch Congrats
