the Storm II model. I had recently found a Boa in S60V in the garage of the house I moved into (lucky, I know). Never had a Kershaw, and I was very impressed with this knife.
However, the laws are weird in NV with regard to automatic knives and I didn't want to risk the man hastling me for any reason. I needed a larger tactical to carry occasionally. I went to walmart, and was set on buying a Spyderco Native til I handled the Storm II. What a knife for 30 bucks! Good steel, workmanship, etc. I think I am a customer for life.

congrats on the Storm 2! you dont have many to get now...

zt0200...zt0300...leek...groove...Toggle...

not many at all ;)

I'm pretty sure the Storm ll is the one i keep out in my car in the small closable compartment over my rear view mirror,........for emergency use. Stainless construction for no rust worries,.......and the partially serrated blade would make short work of cutting thru a seat belt if needed.

Like you i was impressed with the great value and a quality product!

............the rough inserts offer a good grip,.......but tough on anything else that might come in contact with (like my keys), so i chose to put in use as a backup,......

........to my backup ZT 0200's! :D

Ok..now that you have 2, what is going to be the 3rd? ;)
Congrats on the new knife.

I'd like to say that the two are it for a while. However, the blur in the SGP steel looks awfully tempting. The only problem is, I know the law in NV is very restrictive involving automatic blades. I am not quite sure if it is legal to even possess something like my boa, let alone carry it.

I don't quite understand that, since with a CCW a person can carry any number of handguns, or any length of blade for that matter. Does anybody know the specifics of what the knife law is here?

There are some differences between a traditional automatic and the assisted opening mechanism found on your Boa. Most autos use the push of a button of some sort to engage a spring that propels the knife blade open without the user ever touching the blade. Assisted open models like the Boa require the user to manually open the blade to a certain degree before the assist spring kicks in. On Kershaw speed safe models I believe it's usually about 30 degrees, but I could be a little off. Here in California the assisted openers are legal, full autos still no. I'm not sure about NV, but if you look into it, be sure to check the legality of assisted openers. The Boa you have is not considered an "automatic" knife.

Merry Christmas,
Jon

Here is the law as written:

(h) “Switchblade knife” means a spring-blade knife, snap-blade knife or any other knife having the appearance of a pocket knife, any blade of which is 2 or more inches long and which can be released automatically by a flick of a button, pressure on the handle or other mechanical device, or is released by any type of mechanism. The term does not include a knife which has a blade that is held in place by a spring if the blade does not have any type of automatic release.

Seems like it still might apply to AO. Also, they don't sell AO at walmart, of course that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Dave,
If you want, check in with Wayne Goddard at Blade magazine. He's pretty savvy on this stuff.

Cheers

I think, and I'm not a lawyer or LEO, this reads to me that the SpeedSafe would be exempt under the provisions of this law as it is written.

Reason 1 - The torsion bar on the SpeedSafe holds the blade in the closed position.

Reason 2 - There is no automatic release on any of the SpeedSafe knives, as they require you to manually start the movement of the blade toward it's open position.

But as mentioned before, a call or email to local LEO's and/or Kershaw should clear this up. The reason I mention Kershaw is because if the SpeedSafe IS illegal in NV, then they wouldn't be shipping to any dealers there. Just because Wally World doesn't carry them doesn't mean they're illegal...
