I got my Sperco kitchen knives today. I ordered them from www.chaicutlery.com I absolutley love them. It is a shame that some are being discontinued. I am glad I got them when I did. Now all I need is a Spyderco cookbook to show me how to use them

Are all the Spyderco kitchen knives discontinued or just certain models?

I was thinking about getting a couple for the kitchen. Guess I'd better get them pretty soon.

I got the Santuko, The bread knife, french chef's knife, large utility plain, large utilty serrated, small utility plain, small utility serrated, serrated carving knife, and the paring knife. I believe all except the Santuko and the two serrated utilities and the paring knife have been discontinued. Check out this website for more info:

The kitchen knives in Spyderco's printed catalog are the Santoku, the two serrated utilities, and the little bird's beak paring knife.

The plain edge utilities, the chef's knife, and the bread knife had been in the line a few years ago, and were discontinued, and then reintroduced last year on a "test marketing" basis, along with the serrated carving knife, a new model. There was some talk back and forth of re-ordering them from the factory or not re-ordering them, but at the moment they seem to be in the system again - enough that they're now in at least one of my distributor's product lines, as well as Spyderco-direct.

But if people buy them like there's no tomorrow, I won't complain.

Thank you James. I really love the knives, but more importantly so does my wife

I highly recommend the Spyderco kitchen knives. Awesome quality. I also recommend Chai Cutlery, great service.

WOW!!!!

Saw some names from the old days. Thought I lost it and Jim had returned to BFC!!!

A 4-plus year old thread..........

Hi,
I sell and have used the kitchen knives since they came out.We have one that is sort of worn out but is till very useable.I think since about 1990.
At one time the Santokou came in a Lavender handle. These I got from a distributer at a blow out price.I sold quite a few, and didn't keep one.Bet there hard to find in that color right now.Maybe Sal would remember the date thiat was made and for who.
To answer a question or just to contribute to this thread...They are an awesome knife.Have given a lot of the serrated knives fro gifts over the years and people always say how nice they are.
Pete

We still make the Santoku. I think we were the first to offer the shape to the western world. Now everyone makes them,

I don't remember the dates of the lavender version, we also made a blue utility and a pink paring knife to go with the set.

Mr. Glesser: About 4 months ago I got one of those pink paring knives you made mention of. I have never seen it anywhere else either. It has the tiniest of serrations that I have ever seen on any Spyderco product. On the blade itself it has "Spyderco-Yamahide". The seller that I bought it from was a well known Spyderco collector and he told me that you could only get this knife in Japan if I remember correctly. I tend to believe him because I have never seen this knife anywhere here in the states. Plus it has a Wharncliffe typy blade on it as well.????? :)

I don't think it was ever available in Japan. I did a collab with a Japanese friend of mind. (Yamahide).

The serrations were to prevent cutting onself. We eventually dropped the tiny serrations.

OK Mr. Glesser now you answered just enough of the question to make me more curious. I am right to assume that it is truly collectible by virtue of the fact that it is unknown for the most part? Also is this one we are talking about ( pink handle) made from that sermollan? It also looks to me like the K-09 is virtually the same knife with a black handle in stead of the pink one. And is it MBS-26? It is the only Spyderco product that I ever saw with the "Yamahide" name on it. :)

Wow!!! This is an old thread. Over four years!

For the record the Spyderco kitchen knives still perform kitchen duty at my house. They are used everyday. They are holding up like champs.

Hi JD, same materials, just the color and serrations were different.

Thank you Dennis.

I can attest personally to the quality of the Santoku; I use it daily in my kitchen. It is always the blade I reach for first, putting every other blade present to shame.

Thank you, Sal and Spyderco, for bringing affordable quality into the kitchen.
