i ordered a spyderco pacific salt and a kershaw packrat from new graham knives on mondy (awesome place, they shipped the order same day i ordered!). they just came in today and i love em both. i do have one question about the pacific. it has no liners, as it was made for water/saltwater use, and that keeps it from holding water and corroding. it has a slight slight bit of blade wiggle side to side when locked open, very slight. but the kershaw is rock solid. is that just because the spyderco has no liners? im not complaining, i would just like to know. thanks for pointing me to the pacific, for what i will be using it for, it looks perfect!

I've owned a Tasman Salt for ~2 years as well as a dozen other Spydies. There is no "wiggle" blade-play on any of them, especially when NIB.

If it is really noticeable, you may want to return it for a replacement.

Mine kind of feels like it has some blade play but it's because of the lack of liners I can feel the FRN flex, not any actual blade pay. The Pacific Salt has a riveted pivot so if you are actually feeling like the blade is loose inside of the scales and it bothers you enough you can probably get Spyderco to get you another one. It sounds like what you have is nothing major and not going to effect the performance of the knife tho.

i was thinking it could be that. thats how slight it is is. even if it is blade play, its that little, im not worried about it. it will be my hard use knife, exposed to salt water and hard work every day, so im not worried about it. its a really solid, extremely sharp knife, and i am super happy with it. thanks for the info.

Mine has held up very well in chopping duties on hiking trails. I've stabbed it into trees hard as I can, to see if it loosens up any and no it's still tight. Heavy duty as you will find in such a lightweight piece.
Here it is with one of my D-2, F/G Militaries

I've had a Salt 1 SE for two years now. I use it hard. I am a landscaper which means I mostly cut grass. The Salt 1 is used to remove weeds, cut small branches, open bags, cut plastic and everything else. I sharpen it about twice a year. It is truly a hard use knife. Blade play is very minimal.
Nobody does a better job with pinned knives than Spyderco.

glad to hear! the blade play, frame flex, what ever it is, is about as little as it can be without being any. for a pinnned knife with no liners, i am very happy. just wanted to be sure it was ok, as i am a super noob. thanks for all the replies.

Hi, know this is nearly a month old post, however I just bought a used Pacific Salt and figured I'd contribute.
My sample is a user, and was received with a fair amount of scratches on the blade ... but hey, I paid $31 for it and overall it still looks good. I'm pretty picky about this sort of stuff too, and I notice zero blade play in my Pacific Salt -- or any of my 4 Spydercos for that matter.
If I bought new, and felt uneasy in anyway, I'd just have exchanged it for another -- but that's just me. Hope this helps :-).
