Hey maybe not the most intelligent post but I just got my Starmate and I'm so excited that I just have to share.

And my sharpmaker 204 came in the same delivery. Finally. I like it a lot. Just tried and I got better results than with my Gatco and that on the first try. I haven't seen the video yet since my VCR can't play NTSC but my parents VCR can.

The Starmate looks very neat. It had a lot of vertical blade play but I tightened the pivot and now it is ok if not rock solid. But lockup is rock solid. Passed spine whack with flying colours. But my wardrobe has a dent now

It's a bit too big to become my EDC but I'm sure it will see a lot of carry time, when I know there will be havy duty.
Only one thing really annoys me. When closed the blade touches the handles (only very lighty but still). It's not really a big fault as it doesn't hamper the operation just something optical.
Just my first impression after 45 minutes with my new toys.

The Starmate is my favorite Spydie. I have had it for a year or so and it still sees plenty of carry time. It is a large knife, but it is very light and easy to carry. The Sharpmaker will bring it back to a hairpoppin' edge in minutes. Good choice!

got my starmate about a month ago. i had to actually drive an hour and touch it before i bought it. best damn choice i made in a while. that thing is BEEFY. the only bad thing is that it is slightly blade heavy, and when you palm spin it, it doesn't transtion as smoothly as some other folders. that's the G10 handles. otherwise, the blade is great. EDC, unless i use a viele with a suit at work. replaced a benchmade pinnacle.

toast

Actually I carried mine as EDC together with a Dragonfly (for the sheeple) for a while. Right now I'm wearing a BM 705.

I really love my Starmate. ALso I managed to solve the problem of the uncentered blade. Now it's perfect. I just followed chief dignitarys advise on this thread:

When I need a big knife it's definitly my first choice. The CPM 440V is awesome. I feel it cuts trough rope better than my Merlin.

The Starmate is a great knife. But, mine, like cutler's, also has a bit of vertical blade play. I know it can probably be adjusted with the eccentric pivot pin, but it seems okay for now so I'm not going to bother
with it for the time being. It passes the spine-whack test and the blade is well centered. I bought my Starmate in a store so I knew what I was getting, as opposed to buying mail-order. I would like my knives to be perfect but I accept that there will often be small imperfections in fit and finish, regardless of make. Still, the Starmate is the best knife out there in it's size-price
range.

It won't be of any help, but mine is rock solid in every way, no play at all.
