For those of you unfamiliar with this axe, it is a breeching tool for hard materials made of the same steel used in jackhammers!

Here is an excellent description as posted on the Badlands forums:

"The CR is designed to be a hard substance destruction tool.

The materials and construction are intended to give optimum impact and prying strength.

The CR works as a system. The base of which is a .285” thick 6AL4V titanium head, with .775” thick cantilevered S7 impact bits. S7 is an incredibly strong material, most commonly seen on “Jackhammer” bits. The CR bits pivot on .312” dia 416 stainless steel custom made shoulder bolts that have been tapered and crowned to protect them from impact and abrasion. The system is designed to remove all stress on the bolts by letting the bits pivot on the head and strike a steel anvil (bit) against a titanium anvil (head).

In addition to removing bolt stress, this cantilever action also allows for a multi strike action of the bits. The initial strike is achieved with human force by swinging the tool against a surface. The secondary strike is caused by the inertial force of the collapsing cantilever system. By using this system, the axe is actually working as a human powered Jackhammer.

The user is protected both from impact shock, as well as electrical shock by a Delrin sleeve (handle) that fits over the titanium tang of the impact head. The sleeve is then filled with silicone which acts as a damper for impact vibration.

*Notes on the CR.
Feel free to impact any surface. (Sheet metal, glass, concrete, tarmac…)
The Edges are not intended to be “sharp”.
The heads are supposed to be able to move. (It’s the cantilever system).
Its supposed to make that rattle sound. (It’s the cantilever system).
The impact bits are made of S7 and coated with black oxide. They are not stainless.

USE EYE PROTECTION!"

Nice Strider collection you have there. The CR is definately a hard use tool, the amount of engineering that has gone into it makes it an awesome piece of kit. Some time ago i saw a video of someone chopping a car up with one.....the car didn't stand a chance.

thanks and thanks.

I haven't seen the video but i saw the still shots of the after effects...cool stuff!

awesome vid! thanks so much for posting that...now I am even happier that I got it :)

Awesoem looking! Couple questions:

What did it cost you?
Is the head replacable/does it need to be replaced after x amount of use?
Is it readily available to civilians?

cost is US$475

not sure about replacement...but the Strider guys are very good about such things if you need it

i have not heard of any restrictions on civilian sales

RL, can we get a review of it? You planning on trying her out sometime soon? Maybe if we say please? haha

LMAO, RL.... ;) Well maybe you dont wanna review it doing anything to hard to it since you almost paid $500.00 for the thing!!!

I do not think you should mind hitting anything with that thing. It attacked that car and just looked hungrier after digesting it. That is some tool!

After watching the video, I'm wondering what use this axe really has. What exactly would you breach with this? It looked like they had enough trouble with a car.

Not to say this is a poor tool. It just seem that any decent breaching tool would need to me much more massive, at the very least. I'm thinking a fireman's axe or sledge hammer, or step up to powered tools.

just watched that vid...I think the door was unlocked!....I have to comment....Ive been a swat operator for ten years so I have a little background here...I just taught a class on vehicle assaults and had some old vehicles to detroy....I used my VTAC and Coldsteel Trailhawk to breach the windows and take out the tires....I agree that strider makes some cool stuff and I would love that axe (may even try to find one)....I bet that guy in the vid could do some damage at the mall

well im sure it is a gret tool for confined space work, and i know strider makes some high quality stuff, but i have been on a volunteer FD for about 8months now and had hands on training about extrication but i think there are much better tools, although i do keep a hawk in my personel vehicle because sometime you get on the scene in that not a fire truck and some times beat the FT there since we are all volunteers and i guess it would get you by in a emergency until the K12 saw & Jaws of Life got there, but it would wear you out before you got someone out.

But congrats its very cool i may even get on for my truck

i was sort of getting into the video until the second song came on. a cover of smooth criminal is not good breaking things music. and the song after that, well...

he hits the back of the knife with the axe 11 times without penetration into the hood, then looks at the undamaged tip like it should help him out. then puts it next to a hole already made, and hits it 8 times before it falls into the hole that was already there. i enjoy my striders, but they are not combi-tools, and will never be used as such.
