Hi Everyone,

First post on here from a fellow knife knut. I purchased my fourth Spyderco today - the TATANKA. Wow - what a beast (and a beauty at the same time.)

Many people have questioned the usefulness and practicality of such a large folding knife. The handle is very large, almost twice as big as my grip (I have large hands). However, given the large size, it fits very well in my jeans pocket and truthfully, shows less above the pocket than my Manix 2 XL. The black clip also helps conceal it. I don't really notice the weight in my pocket, but with lighter pants it would probably tug down too much.

One of the advantages of the very large size handle: in the cold climate I live in (Wisconsin) the knife will work very well with large, bulky gloves. This will be primarily a winter time knife for me.

The blade is gorgeous I think - the full thickness is carried through about 80% of the blade, with a handsome swedge to bring it to a point. The jimping on the blade is aggressive and offers a secure purchase.

One of the highlights of course is the Powerlock. The knife locks with an affirmative "thuck." Zero perceptible blade play. I can't see this lock ever failing on me.

I am not able to open the blade with the Spydie hole. The blade may be tightened too much, but the length of arc the hole follows is large as well, and the back lock provides quite a bit of resistance. I am left opening the knife with two hands, which is fine with me given that this is not a "quick flick out the knife and cut something" kind of blade. Getting this knife out is more of an "experience" lol.

Anyway just a few of my initial impressions of this knife. I purchased it from a local outdoors shop with a 20% off coupon for Black Friday. $174 out the door, and worth every bit of that given the quality fit, finish and heavy duty function of this knife.

I like mine too. Can't wait to get it back.

The tatanka is a must have for me
What an amazing knife
It'll be my light fixed blade substitute

This knife is a work of art. I bought two. I sold my collection of large Cold Steel folders to help pay for them (Rajah II, Espada L, Espada XL)

It locks up so solid. I don't even know it is there when I carry it in my back pocket. It is the perfect companion for my CCW weapon, S&W 642.

I have no problem opening it one handed either.

I love mine as well. This knife has bumped a $2k DDR custom out of my pocket.

Wow, that mod looks absolutely amazing! Love the clip blade you made out of it (and the wave, of course)!

Thanks! I've model 5 Tatankas so far.

Very impressive... your work always is. Keep on keepin' on, CM. And OP, congrats on a very cool blade--I have my eye on one, but when the steel gets that substantial, I tend to gravitate toward fixed. I guess we'll see!
