got my spydie ultra fine ceramic finishing stone today (my birthday is coming) and LOVE it - they DEFINITLY put an edge on, well about 12 of my knives so far tonite - when ya already got them 'pretty' sharp, and want that 'dangerous' sharp edge, ya cant beat the ceramic imho - i know they are high $$ but i think spydie loses money (?) on each one they sell - could this be true????? they are the bomb for sure, thanks again spydie!!!!! try one, they are worth the money i promise ya....

sifu

PS - to all ya guys who have one - do ya use it wet or dry, w/water or.....?? i know ya wouldnt use oil, would ya??

thanks for info

Spyderco UltraFine is great addition to standard Spyderco Medium grit/Fine grit combo. I like it alot. I use UltraFine with water the following way: I put it in kitchen sink under tap and open tap to make it to squirt water on ultrafine stone constantly. Then I sharpen my knife while water is running over stone's surface.

As for final touch I like Kasumi water stones. They come in 3000 and 8000 grit (Spyderco UltraFine is 1200 grit by the way).

Mundele:
I use them slightly wet as I am using them. I also clean them with Soft-Scrub in between 20-30 strokes as I like to keep my stones very clean. I have found neither (wet or dry) to be better of worse I just don't bother to dry them off when I clean them and I clean them alot.

spyderholic, I think you replied to the wrong guy. No problem though. Anyone know about the UF ceramic rods for sharpmaker?

UF is a very fine stone indeed. Sal has said they lose money on them but supply them for the benefit of some of us dull members of the knife world. You can't directly compare the grit numbers with Japanese Waterstones. Different scales. The UF is comparable to 6000 / 8000 jap. Fine mirror finish, unfortunately not available for sharpmaker.

....I wondered that also...

Yep the ULBStone is well worth it. The results have to be seen to be understood. It puts a razor pro finish without the need for paper loaded pads and wet/dry messy paper. Stunning!

If only we could have them in stick form...

Yes I know it would not work as it takes a Diamond to get the finish on the ceramic.

Sal any chance of a guide for the Benchstones? I know there are other products that would do this, but why not a Spyderco Guide? Not all shops carry all brands. I am lucky in that a local shop understands quality and carries Spyderco products! Woo Hoo! :)

Hi General. Like you said, there are a lot of "guides" out there. The market doesn't need another one and the "Guide" makers don't need the competition, IMO.
