After several years on the wanted list I finally got a Victorinox Farmer (actually two, one will become a user inmediatly and the other saved as a backup), thanks to an acquaintance who made a trip to Europe.

These are in the older style of the Farmer and Pioneer, based on the Soldier but with red alox handles. They have the little ring and no year marking on the blade.

Great fit and finish as I expected, sharp edge which I may reprofile to a smaller angle one of this days.

Price was 31.8 Euros each.

My old Wenger Soldier will take a well deserved rest (it was my weekend knife) and my usual weekday Huntsman will see some rotation.

Edited for grammar.

Why are these not available in america? I saw one at the Remington Store with silver alox handles. 26.00:) . So why are these so rare here? Thanks.

It seems that many models are not imported, you could order on the Web directly from Switzerland. I don´t order into Mexico because of customs.

Can you tell me where in Switzerland you were able to find the Red, Alox, Farmer? Do you know if the store has a website? I've been looking for one but can't find them in the US.

An acquaintance who visited over there about a year ago got them for me, I believed just in some store on the street, I´ll ask when I see her, she probably won´t remember much though.

I really need to get one of those someday! You got a good one!

Just wish the red ones were easier to find.

where's the best and cheapest place to buy victorinoxes over the Internet? I need to get a couple - explorer, farmer, soldier for year-end prezzies...

Hi it´s a mad world.
I live in Europe and was impossible for me to get one Vic farmer and find it in USA.

That does sound crazy

I guess it may depend on which part of Europe....

Both these Europe based sites list the Alox Pioneer series -

Swiss-Knife.com in Switzerland -

I checked, my red alox Farmers were purchased at the railroad station at Bern, Switzerland not long before this thread was started, I guess June 2003.

WOW, my entire family in Switzerland lives in Bern! Not more than a few miles from the station :) I don't suppose you can recall the name of the shop, if not no problem. Thanks again!
