Picked it up at the Westminster MD show from a great local dealer.

Overall pretty impressed. Haven't gone out back to hack anything with it yet though.

Well designed and executed. Need to find a way to increase the grip on the handle a bit. Seems a little slick.

Sheath is well made and I like that you can change the carry direction.

The hawk is not shaving sharp. However, that has been addressed and I understand it. Need it more for hacking rather than cutting myself.

It's a very nice tool.

Hey ohen cepel!

Did you also receive some real great Pro 2nd. Amendment lapel pins with the hawk?

If you did, you then know who the ol'dawg is!

ol'dawg,
Had my suspicions due to the pins!

Took it out back for a bit of testing. Went well till I stepped on a hornet's nest. Dicked up the evening (bad!).

It's great for what it's meant to do. Trying to cut a log is not real nice though since the bevel on the blade is too steep, blade tends to bounce away from the cut. Driving into a log to split it or penetrate it is great! Excellent penetration!

I beat it hard till the d*mn bees got me! Handle flexes a bit but not much. I thought the head had worked loose a few times but it hadn't, only me not used to the flex of the handle. It's not a typical feel. However, I have to say it's good for what it was designed to do.

It's meant for a military role and will fill that great. Not what I would take to the woods with me though. Cutting bevel is all wrong for that.

Bottom line: I think it's great for what it's meant for, just don't expect it to be something that it's not.

Oh, and if anyone is local they need to check in with Ol Dawg. He's got great stuff for a great price!

This is a good post...very well rounded.

This first production run of the new LaGana VTAC has provided tremendous feedback. Thank you for your remarks Ohen.

You're right in that it's a wood chopper primarily...however, the grind affords the best "all-around" extreme use for a light axe.

I recently discussed our Tomahawk in terms of its combative applications with Ernie Emerson...as he put it, "Tactically, a baton's targets are boney structures...a knife's targets are soft tissue...the Tomahawk's targets are both and are virtually unlimited". The same could almost be said regarding utilitarian applications...anything, anywhere.

You may avail yourself of our re-grind policy if you want to use it primarily as a woods tool...send it in to us and we'll thin the bevel to shaving sharp...we'll totally square you away at no charge except return shipping.
