Got my Website Active

So I put together a website. I don't want this to attract customers as I do this as a hobby and word of mouth sales is fine by me. I just wanted a place to showcase the knives and have somewhere for people to go and see what I can do and what's involved. I tend to have most knives sold before they hit the site.

I've never done a website but I was surprised at how easy it was. This took about 8 hours to get the main site ready and maybe another 8 hours to fiddle with it to polish it up.

Have a look and let me know what you think or if there are any changes you'd suggest making.

Looks good. What web hosting service did you use to make it?
Did it all through WIX.

I really liked that you can fully design and make the website and don't need to pay anything until you publish it. I thinks it's $8.00 a month.

Not to sound like an advertisement but it really is just click and drag.

Websites are definitely being seen more and more as outdated marketing but I don't agree. If someone googles you it's best if a website comes up with basic information, a gallery, and contact information. Social media marketing is not the same.

Looks good.
I will caution you that you need a knifemaker membership to talk sales and post a website you sell on.
Since this thread is about the website and you clearly stated you are not looking for sales, it will be OK.

Anyone interested in his knives , do it by email or through his site.

I agree with Larrin - websites are best for me. Social Media isn't something I'm interested in. Sad to say it does seem like social media is required if a person wishes to sell knives.

BTW, that is a good spreadsheet you've got there.

Looks good but I would optimize it for mobile use. In your wiz editor on the left you will see optimize for noble use. Click that and let it do its magic. Everything is WAY to small on a phone. And considering probably 80-90% of visitors will be on phones it’s very important to get the moble version done properly.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I do have an Instagram account which was a pain trying to get photos from a computer to IG. I prefer a website but all the 20 somethings I speak with want to see an Instagram page. As noted, I want it mainly for info.

The Excel sheet was a bit of work trying to get something that gave practical pricing for all options but I think I'm pretty happy where it is. It really makes things easier for quoting people. If anyone wants, they can steal that for their own use. I'm sure pricing will need to be adjusted accordingly.

Thanks for the heads Stacy.

Definitely optimize for mobile devices (it even presents some problems with window size on my Windows computer). Not sure how to do that with WIX (I am more familiar with WordPress) - hopefully what JT said works cleanly for you.

I tried clicking around and the page wouldnt change , nothing I clicked on would take me somewhere other than the home page ?

Cool!
Yep, totally agreed that one should have a standard website with stable information. Social media is good for engagement, but it's fractured and you never know when and how the flavor-of-the-month will change.

My only suggestion is to disable the autoplay video on the landing page. Most everybody 35 and younger looks at everything on their phone, and IIRC Canadian cellular data is speeendy. It's not free down here either.

Good work!

Works fine for me on a desktop with Win 10 and Firefox

Plus it's just annoying.

I like the nice readable text.
It's fashionable now to have dim grey text on a grey background and I find that hard to read.
It's especially annoying when you realize they made a deliberate choice to pick a font and background combination of colours that have poor contrast.

Thanks for all the tip guys.

Wiz had a mobile site that I disabled because everything was overlapping and I didn't bother to take the time to fix it. It's on my to do list but I prefer making knives.

Great input all around though

Looks good, some nice info for less knowledgeable people.
I see a typo in the first FAQ "gauranteed"

I'm wondering if you have me confused with someone else. I wasn't making knives 6 years ago and all my knives have stayed in canada. I don't think my membership allows me to sell through the forum but you can send me an email if you want. Everything I have available is currently shown in my gallery.

Great website and great products! Unfortunately, very often I go to your site, and it doesn't work, I think you chose not very high-quality hosting for your site. I want to advise you to try hosting better it's an inexpensive and very high-quality one. Can I order a knife from you to different parts of the world? I would like to give a gift to my friend, a chef who lives in Poland. I'm ready to pay for the delivery and the knife itself, as long as I know that this knife will definitely get to him. I've been using your knife for six years now and I'm really surprised by its quality. Please do something with your site so that it doesn't slow down since I can't contact you in any way.
