So, my Gransfor's Bruks Wildlife Hatchet came in the mail today...

This is a very, very nice piece of gear. I love the fit and finish, the feel, the size...

Some people think it's on the small side, but for my backpacking adventures it should do just fine...

This hatchet is a very well rounded piece of gear that could probably do a lot more than people give an axe credit for. It feels like it will be an excellent carving hatchet, and I could probably even do some food prep in addition to the obvious wood splitting and limbing and such...

Here are the pics...

Choked up grip for carving, etc.

Nice one mate! I already picked up a GB scandi forest axe and am so impressed with it that I'll most likely be picking up a more portable GB as well. Really a tossup between this model and the SFA...

Sweet trio BTW

Thank you!

I also really like the hunter's axe, which won some awards overseas.

The Wildlife hatchet is a great little hatchet. It's a small hatchet, smaller than I thought it was going to be actually, but really fun to use...

Those are tough to choose between, but if you already have the Scandi, I say go for the Wildlife because there will be more of a difference. I feel like I could almost EDC this thing! It just feels right at home attached to my belt.

Thanks again for looking...

I also forgot to mention that I recently acquired a 10" Wetterlings in a trade as well. Not as nice of a finish as my GB, and it came with a fairly thick profile and edge, but after spending an hour or so re-doing it, it's proving to be quite a nice tool. I gave it a profile that I'm really liking and I'm sure will come in handy: one side has a constant convex edge while the other is a fairly flat grind with the shoulder knocked off. It makes carving and making feather sticks significantly easier whilst still being tough enough to chop and split wood.

It's tiny, yes - but quite capable. I've already decided that I'm going to EDC it in my pack. I'd honestly prefer a kukri to it, but a small axe would be a lot easier to explain to sheeple should anyone ever see it - a girl I'm good friends with even went as far as to call it cute

That all said, I'm leaning towards the SFA right now just because it's more of a middle ground between the two axes I already have. The 10" as an EDC, the 25" for car camping, and the 19" probably best for backpacking.

now i cant decide. Should I get the wildlife hatchet or the small forest ax:confused::)

Haha - I hear ya.
What do you think you'll be wanting the axe for? Do you see yourself using it more for bushcraft/carving, smaller wood processing, and limbing? Or do you see yourself needing something that can more easily fell a small tree? Also, how much space is available to you? If you have a rucksack, both will fit but anything smaller and the SFA will probably need to be strapped to the outside of a pack...

Congratulations on your purchase. Granfors is one of the best (probably the best). Not many axes comes with a sturdy leather sheath like this.

Depending on the usage think the small forest axe has the most usable handle length. The length allow both one and two hand operation. The small forest axe is Ray Mears number one choice for bushcraft.

G.B'S good stuff your going to like it. I have the SFA and its very handy....

If you stay to the basics is the fitest choise.
Small and handy, mini axe and knife.
It`s my choise too.

I would most likely use it for chopping down small trees, so probably the small forest ax would be my best choice.
And I can even choke up on it for the finer work.
I just wished there was a local store so I could check them out in person.
