Got myself a Cryo

Nice little small (2.75") edc blade. For the price point I can't complain about the uneven grind near the tip. What sucks about these blister packs is you can't tell certain things before you buy it. It's got a "sticky" lock - engages nicely but really hard to get it to disengage. Any tips on what to do with this?

I already tried loosening all screws and torquing in proper order, that didn't do anything for me.

Photo just because.

Update: oh geez, I figured it out. With the clip situated tip up right hand, it sits about halfway down the lock bar, which makes the lock bar really hard to open since there's more tension on it. That's disappointing.

Nice ZT! And congrats on the new Cryo. It will get easier with use. I had a Cryo once upon a time who's lock was a tad sticky, and for the most part it smoothed itself out over time and plenty of deployments. If you really want to, take the clip off and bend it out ever so slightly. If you screw it up, you can always contact KAI for a new pocket clip!

I just switched the clip to right hand tip down. Not ideal but that fixed the lock issue.

Thx on the ZT. I picked that up 2 weeks ago, my first knife purchase in a few years, just got the cryo today, seems the bug bit me again :-/

Hahaha that's how it goes, sometimes. You need to try the ZT 0566 when you get a chance. That thing is like a Cryo on steroids.

Is that like a 550 with a flipper and bearing pivot? That's what I really want, skip the AO

Just looked it up on ZT's site. That seems like the perfect knife. Seems like a full production version of the Hinderer XM18. The want is strong. I don't know much about Elmax though.

I can say that from my experience, as well as several members on this forum, that ZT's Elmax is awesome. Great edge retention as well as corrosion resistance.

The 0566 is AO but you can take out the torsion bar and it functions great as a manual flipper. Still, it rides on phosphor bronze washers.

If you're looking to get a bearing knife, the 0560/0561/0801 and upcoming 0562 all utilize the KVT system.

Cryo is an awsome knife for the money. Its my work knife, does everything i need. My lock is also somewhat hard to dissengage though.

How much smoother are the bearing knives? And does it make it harder to disassemble and clean?

I like everything about the Cryo except that it's made in China. Can't make myself buy one for this reason, wish they had a similar US made version I'd have no problem paying more.

New to forum. I have had my cryo for a week or so now and after plenty of deployments it is becoming easier to disengage. Also you can try loosening the hinderer stabilizer. Love my cryo as much or even more than my blur.

When done right, bearing knives are incredibly smooth. The bearings, coupled with a strong detent, help shoot the knife out with minimal effort. You really do have to try one for yourself.

As for your second question, ZT's are not hard at all to take apart. Here is a pic from an older thread. Not my photo, credit goes to member hoxhunbe. You can clearly see how the bearings are caged, or rather that they ride in a washer and don't fly all over the place when you take the knife apart.

Ahh that's what I was wondering. I drop enough t6 screws as it is, would be really screwed trying to find a bunch of ball bearings!

Are you supposed to grease them?
