The title says it all.I really love my RAT-5.Not too long,deep blade and harder than rock solid feel.I also love the sheath wich is a rare thing for me.
Keep em comming.Great work.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Congrats! I am about to get a RAT 7 myself (D2 blade) if things come out as expected (trade). What steel is yours? I read long ago about a D2 blade failure while battoning and I am a bit worried that may happen to me as well...

We did have some failures on the Ontario line a long time ago. Since then we have changed heat treat procedures as well as going to water jet cutting instead of laser cutting D2. This has helped the micro-cracking problem we were having. In fact, Paul Bos advised and helped us work out the heat treat issue on the D2. Now, before anyone jumps to a conclusion, Paul Bos does not heat treat our blades, he simply helped us resolve some issues via conference calls with our heat treater. Paul is one helluva ggood guy and so is Buck Knives and the folks there.

I had a RAT 5 but gave it to a buddy who joined the infantry. It was a solid knife, which is why I gave it to him. I may pick up a RAT 7 someday to see if it chops as well as I think it will, the 5 did a good job of it.

I like my RAT5 a lot. It just feels right - its the perfect size. Looking forward to getting an RC4 as it looks like another perfect midsized blade.

I have the 1095 verson.It performed very well in the woods on boxing day when myself and my 2 friends went for a hike/crawl.(almost 2 feet of snow in the woods here)
shaved up some fire sticks well and carved out a spot to have our fire in the side of a deadfall.I made a small platform fire with a flat deadfall chunk I found.Kept it out of the snow and kept us warm.

Congrats on the Rat5. I also have one in 1095 and has performed flawless for me for the last 6 months that I've had it.

I also have the Rat3 on the way.:D

I see one shop has 1095 and D2 steel models for sale.
The RAT site doesn't say which steel they are using.
What is the story?

If we're talking RAT-5s, the only ones in existence at this point are 1095 models. No D2 models have been released yet. There are D2 water jet cut blanks on the floor at Ontario but they have not been finished and shipped.

Here's a shot of my RAT-5 with my new Cold Steel Norse hawk at our little improvised camp.
