Today I got an Electrician. The extra sheepfoot blade is nice and sharp (who opens cans anyway?). The tools closes with a mighty snap! This knife could be a very nice edc. I have a Farmer but it´s a little bit to bulky and the key-ring annoys the hell out of me.
(Sorry for bad cellphone pic.)

Congratulations! Good stuff! I have a Master Electrician (same knife w/saw) for woodsbummin'.

You could always cut off the keyring with say a Dremel

As an electrician, these knives really bother me!!

Nice knife though, I still want one of these because it doesn't have a key ring.

Great knife, enjoy it! Now get a Rancher to keep it company - love the little hawkbill blade they put on it.

Why "as an electrician"do these knives bother you?

They probably would never be used by an electrician in the trade. But hey, I can't speak for all electricians.

They just don't seem substantial for real work... i'm sure they'd do the job fine, but a small folding electrician knife like this isn't something you would wanna use on a daily basis. With your tools you'd personally want something a little bigger cutting edge and bigger handles.

To each their own... just because you own a knife called "The Electrician" doesn't mean you HAVE to use it for electrical, it just bothers me that the knife is called that.

Cutting 14/2, 14/3 (house wire ect.)

My father has done maintenance/electrician work for 40+ years now, and I can't convince him to carry a knife other than the one on his keychain with maybe a 1" blade. What do you find a large knife necessary for?

I can't speak for your father, but possibly he is just set in his way. A lot of people don't like change. However (possibly?) you could get away with a smaller knife back in the day when rooms only had 1 light to install, 2 plugs ect... In todays markets when you are doing a rough in (new construction) a lot of rooms will have a lot more electrical work done to them... this means multiple lights, way more plugs, 3 way switches, telephone, tv cables ect you are going to be using your knife a lot more, so you might want something with a bit more bulk to it.

We have to pay for our own tools, and if you don't bring the right tools to the job sites, some Foreman/Journeymen will kick you off. You are here to work and time is money.

I don't claim to know everything, so if someone can get away with using these knives as an electrician, good on them! I just couldn't see myself or anyone I know use one in my current line of work.

I find a larger knife handy when stripping big feeder cables for forming loops so they can be pulled then skinning enough insulation off to land it in the switchgear. When residential work is being done skinning the jacket from everything from phone wire to 6/3 stove wire is a recurring task that is best done with a readily accessable knife with a large comfortable handle and a box cutter type is found on the pouch of every good electrician I know.

The name Electrician is just a name they put to it. I have a Farmer, Pioneer, Cadet, etc., but those names don't bother me, even though I'm not a farmer, pioneer, or in the military or police, nor do I see any practical reason why these models would have those particular names. They are simply excellent pocket knives/tools.
