I recently made a sheath for my brother in law, for his first handmade knife, a small skinner. Anyways i made him up a sheath for it, didnt really expect payment, i do this quite a bit for friends and family. Gave him his sheath over easter, he then proceeds to hand me 3 knives he bought from a co-worker, a Kabar Barlow w/box(1979), owners paper etc., and 2 case knives a beautiful canoe and a muskrat. None of the knives looked carried or sharpened!

Such a nice gesture and i wanted to make sure he didnt break the bank buying them, well he paid 10 bucks each:eek:
Heres to Excellent Brother in laws and coworkers who dont know what their selling!
Big shock ive got 4 knives in the last month, thats more than ive bought since 2008 or so!

Anyways thought id share and to see if anybody can shed any light on the kabar or the muskrat never seen a case stamp with roman numerals?
Thanks
Gene
PS i included the sheath i did for his mini skinner too!

That kabar barlow is a beauty. Haven't seen one with that much of the dyed delrin removed around the edges...looks cool.

I love them old 70s Kabars, weren't they contract knives made by Schrade back then?

My Roman numerals are rusty, what year are the Cases?

Great deal, I usually get paid in White Castle and beer. :)

The sheath is awesome, and the payment is great too!

Beautiful job on the sheath. That 1993 Case Canoe really floats my boat. Looks like a great deal for both of you.

thanks guys! and the muskrat is a 93 by the roman numerals, also noticed the other blade has muskrat stamped on the tang? any ideas why they would stamp it? Why the muskrat and not the stockmans etc.
I usually get paid in hugs and kind words, which is nice but getting some shiny and sharp is great! Beer and white castles sound good too though!
im still practicing on my leather carving and tooling, got along way to go but im getting better
Thanks
Gene

Getting paid in knives - what I great idea!

I have often bartered my web design services for things like accommodation in nice vacation spots and art work but not knives yet.

Now to find a great knife maker in need of web site work... lol

Love the sheath. The fact that you got paid in knives is a big bonus. They are really great examples of some fine knives.

Nice tooling and stitching on the sheath. You do excellent work.
I'm covetous of your canoe. :p

Oh yeah... that sheath is a real beauty. Very well done, Sir :)

Getting paid in knives is always a great way getting paid. The three you got there are great. Especially that Muskrat is a fine knife. Is it in Appaloosa Bone?

Thanks for sharing!

Very nice work on the sheath  You have a talent!
Nice haul on the knives too!

thanks for the praise on the sheath, im slowly getting there and buying tools when i can
Thanks

The muskrat is a Case Classic, made by Queen. Parker did weird/goofy stuff like have Muskrat stamped on a muskrat.
