got a couple questions about the axis knives in general, and about the griptilian and 710 specificly. thanks for any advice.
1) are either the griptilian or 710 assisted opening? are all or non of the axis systems AO?
2) is the 710 and grip equally lefty friendly as they are for righties? can the be a true lefty knife?
3) im looking to get a true lefty large "tactical" or "self defense" folder. im either getting the spyderco police g10, or the BM 710. i know the spyderco is an excellent lefty knife, how does the 710 compare in that area?
thanks fir any help:thumbup:

This is a bit off-topic, but the ZT 0500 is an excellent large, left-handed folder. The Hawk Lock is perfectly positioned for the index or middle finger (it's actually better for lefties). It's even easy to use with large gloves on. The stud-lock Kershaws (speedbump/offset) are also ambidextrous.

1) Grip & 710 no AO, 580/585 are AO axis.
2) sure why not?
3) 710 is a very hefty g10 scales axis knife

I have the B/M 710 and the Police 3 and both are long and thin for their size.
Both are well balanced and quick. I think the 710 is a bit faster to deploy, as the axis lock offers little resistance, compared to the lock-back.
You aren't going to go wrong with either one, IMO.

The new Benchmade Barrage and Mini-Barrage are the first and only AO Axis locks on the market.

Why you'd need this when you can flick open an Axis-lock faster than an automatic I don't know. From what I've read, they're harder to close one handed as well.

I like the axis lock, but I think the Police 3 fits my hand better and it seems a lot bigger than the 710 in person.

No

Yes, both are 100% ambidextrous, it's one of the reasons I like Benchmades as a southpaw myself.

Hard to go wrong here, both are great knives. I personally like the 710 better, it's one of the smoothest opening large folders I have ever seen.

thanks everybody. glad the hear the grip and 710 are non AO, i actually prefer it that way. glad to hear both knives are great, now its time for the decision making ;)
thanks again, mike.

since the police g10 is part of this discussion, is it riveted like the pacific salt, or is it ajustable?

Not if it doesn't fit your needs.. but the RIFT is one of the most comfortable grips I've ever held.

The 610 Rukus is another BM Axis Lock to look at. The first AO Axis Lock was the L.E. 615 Mini Rukus released earlier this year, although mini, in this case, does not hold the meaning is usually does.

The correct answer is: Buy them both (and a G-10 Police too)!
